IMPORTANT CHANGES

It is now possible to upgrade the N80 to N80ie with the Nokia software updater (NSU), you may have to change your product code with NSS http://rapidshare.com/files/5911866/nss10383.rar , EURO 3 code has been tried and works :)

If the above works then you don't need to do anything else, the guide will remain for others that are unable to upgrade with the above method.

Ok some people aksed for it so here it is including all downloads that work..

This is for European but you can use the APAC firmware instead if thats what you require

Firmware Euro

EMEA 15.00 Package:

EMEA 15.01 Update:

Firmware APAC

NSS

http://rapidshare.com/files/5911866/nss10383.rar

Instructions

First change product code with NSS to allow flashing to N80i

1, install NSS and run
2, plug in phone and select "pc suite" on phone
3, in NSS click "scan for new devices"
4, Click phone info
5, click enable product code and enter 0543922 (this is for Euro with English but other codes are below, if you want apac then remeber to use the apac firmware)
6, Click "write"
7, when complete unplug phone and exit NSS

UNINSTALL ALL RELATED NOKIA PROGRAMS AND DRIVERS, THIS INCLUDES NSS, PC SUITE, CABLE DRIVERS AND ANY PREVIOUS INTALLATIONS OF DIEGO, PHEONIX ETC.

Now run the 2 firmware files, 15.00 first and then 15.01 ( this is for euro)

Now to install pheonix

1, Run reaper, all instructions are included within reaoer, you dont have to download anything because all files are included here.

2, Follow instructions "how to install pheonix" (skip the download files part)

3, install Diego

4, open pheonix dongle crack (double click on it but dont install yet)

5, install pheonix untill it prompte for dongle not found.

6, click "retry" and run crack immediately and press "yes to all" in new window that opens, if done correctly then pheonix will continue to install normally, if you didnt do this correctly then close current pheonix installation and re-start pheonix installation from step 4 above - YOU HAVE TO DO THIS STEP VERY VERY QUICKLY OR PHEONIX WILL NOT INSTALL AND YOU WILL HAVE TO TRY AGAIN.

7, It may stop installing pheonix with "DESkey not found" click on yes twice then it will continue to register dll files (in some cases you will not get this message untill after you restart your computer if prompted after installation)

8, restart your computer.

9, copy pheonix crack and framework.dll into pheonix folder (this is the folder that you installed pheonic into . probably C:\Program Files\Nokia\Phoenix (but this may be different on your PC)

10, Run pheonix and enter your details...now pheonix will work.

To install firmware into your phone

1, back up your phone to the memory card, and then remove the memory card and sim

2, turn on phone and accept to use without sim

3, connect phone to PC with USB cable and select PC Suite

4, wait while the drivers are installed

5, you should have the latest firmware pages..if not then download via reaper

USB Flashing for N80

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE FULLY CHARGED BATTER (VERY IMPORTANT)

1, run pheonix and click file ->manage connections
2, click on the new button
3, tick USB and click next
4, it will find the handset connected via USB and click on next
5 it will display USB and click finish
6, Now place USB on top and click on apply -> close
7, click on file -> scan product
8, you will notice the handset has been detected, (look at the very bottom line of the window to see the phone info)
9 click on flashing -> sw update
10, select your product code (the code previously eneterd in NSS above) and click start
11, now pheonix will flash your phone...leave your phone alone EVEN IF THE SCREEN GOES BLANK AND YOU THINK ITS STOPPED UPDATING and do not dissconnect the usb cable as this will damage your phone.
12, after flash is complete a message will say "USB flashing successfull", your phone will boot up and will take 1 - 3 minutes to start so be patient

YOU NOW HAVE n80I PHONE

Notice you will have an internet folder, after you restore from your memory card the internet folder will dissapear and contents will be in "my own" folder.

I take no responsibility for any damage caused to your phone, this is entirely at your own risk, and this will also probably void your warrantee.

Maybe not, but its a simple process and only takes a couple minutes,

I didnt try without changing the product code, I thought its best to be safe than sorry as I read that you have to change the product code somewhere, and some people like the product code to be correct for their phone and the N80i.

I am not sure and may be corrected here, but it may have something to do with the languages that are installed in your phone..

This sounds to me as though something is interfering with the connection between Phoenix and and your phone. First off check the most obvious things like ensuring that you have a good solid cable connection and that it's plugged into a verifiably working USB port.
The other thing that might be causing issues is if your PC Suite/Nokia Cable Driver didn't uninstall fully. If this is the case try the method I used and install Phoenix and Diego on a Virtual Machine. I used VMWare server (http://www.vmware.com/products/server/) which is nice and easy to get to grips with. Only thing to remeber here is that you give the Virtual machine access to the hosts USB ports in the Virtual machine settings. This method has the advantage that you can guarrentee you are running on a clean installation of Windows without having to format your existing PC.

You do not need to change the product code with NSS prior to flashing with Pheonix, the product code will be changed automatically by Pheonix dependant on the firmware you choose.

The idea of changing the product code using NSS was to allow people to upgrade their 'branded' phones to a 'non branded' firmware using the official Nokia Update Service (NSU). For example if you had a Vodafone N80 and connected it to the NSU you would be told there were no updates, once you had changed the product code using NSS it was then possible to update to the latest firmware using NSU

Ok...so I can delete the part about NSS ?...this is the way that I did it and thats why I wrote the guide like that because I know it works .....

I didnt try flashing without prior changing the code, so I didnt write the guide like that..

In any case it doesnt harm the product, and the firmware will then be chosen automatically for you ... maybe a little easier for people who are not too technically minded perhaps..

So Cash as you flashed with the UK Country Variant 0543922,

if you hold down the # key does it change to silent profile, and then press again for back to general profile ?

mine didn't, so I reflashed it with Euro1 PB and it now changes profiles for the # key just fine

No it doesnt do that anymore when I hold it down :(..it just changes from numeric to alpha mode when I type to call somebody .. I guess this is for the SIP functions (did it do this before on the standard N80..I cant remember)

Did you uninstall everything to do with Nokia ?

If not then sounds like you have a conflict with some other software, maybe try the virtual server route instaed http://www.vmware.com/products/server/

I never tried this so cant give you any advice ..

can i ask the difference between apac and emea?

i used the emea 0539548 EURO 2 Patina Bronze Internet Edition, on my n80, which was originally orange branded, then flashed to generic version using the nss and nsu meathod, which i have been using for a few months, then flashed to internet edition using phoenix with above mentioned code yesterday.

was pretty straight forward, part from downloading all the software, which cash has put nice links up for. :)

also got rid of the back cover with annoying orange logo and got brand new original nokia cover from www.mobilefun.co.uk.

can i ask the difference between apac and emea?

well apac is for asia and pacific region, and obviously will be tuned for the mobile market and languages there, and emea is for the European market, middle east (Ithink and maybe america).

if you flashed with apac firmware you may not be able to use the NSU..(I may be corrected here)

Excellent, Thanks for the help.
Managed to get it working by also installing the Series 60 SDK which I previously missed. After installing everything I restarted. Did the Pheneox stuff, restarted and it all works now.

Quick question.... I flash in the EURO 1 Perl Black... But what's the differences between EURO1, EURO2, EURO3 and the two UK images?

Thanks,
A.

Hi Mic,

Sorry I cant help here .. I have had no experience with bricking a phone and then having to remedy, all the phones I flashed so far have thankfully flashed first time and OK, So I cant really advise on what you need to do.

There are others here who have managed to bring their dead phones to life .. I think Dez has some experience with this and I am sure he or others can advise better than me ...

Hope you get it working

Thanks for the detailed instructions. Just managed to flash my phone with 0539363 EURO 1 Pearl Black Internet Edition. Havent started using it yet but hopefully everything works. The # key still works to switch to/from Silent/Normal profiles.

One question (or obervation) - instructions say that the phone has (or recommended) to be fully charged. I was charging my unit using a USB charger and forgot to remove it when i started the flashing process - i hope it hasnt somehow wrecked anything inside. So far everything still works.

Thanks again Cash - you rock!!!!

I dont think anything would be damaged inside your phone...I think its just incase there may be a power surge or something that would disrupt the flashing process..

Cool. I've got Gizmo on and tested - lags a little but otherwise ok. Not as good as Skype i feel but since Skype isnt on the N80, it's as good as i can get now. Only challenge now is to get my mates to get on Gizmo so I can benefit from it. At the moment, everyone's on Skype.

Unfortunately because the flash failed at 80% instead of 100%, your phone is almost certainly now in a condition that only trained Nokia Service Engineers can repair.

If you got your phone through a UK Network contract, phone your mobile operator and just claim it stopped working. They will advise you what their returns process is, or tell you where your nearest Nokia Care Centre is located.

Provided you have the original invoice or despatch note for the handset, the repair will be free of charge. If you bought the phone off eBay contact the seller and ask them if they are willing to send you the original invoice, or have the handset repeaired on your behalf.

Alternatively,... older versions of Phoenix contained a dead-phone flash function. I still have the setup files for Phoenix 2004 and could upload them to rapidshare for you tonight. However i am not 100% sure if this version (a) has the Dead Flash Mode and (b) supports the N80. It's up to you if you want to try or not. I doubt you can make the N80 any more dead than it already is.

Best of luck!

Cash.

Something that it might be worth adding your guide

'Once you have connected your phone via pop port/usb to your computer, don't under any circumstances touch or move the phone or usb lead until the flashing is complete'

Nokia 'Pop Port' is a very poor connection method and the slightest movement can disconnect it, thankfully the forthcoming N95 is moving to the much more reliable 'mini USB'

11, now pheonix will flash your phone...leave your phone alone and do not dissconnect the usb cable as this will damage your phone.

I cant get the NSS program to change the product code... I know ratkat says its not necessary, but considering that I'm UNABLE to do it I'm worried that I shouldn't go on until I'm atleast able to perform this step.

Anyone?

Don't worry, if you flash with Phoenix 2006, just select the relevant product from the Software Flash menu - e.g. Euro 1 Black or Euro 1 Silver etc.

Phoenix will warn you that the code is different from the one in the phone, but if you click YES to continue, it will change it after the flash is complete.

Usually changing the phone to GENERAL profile and leaving the SIM CARD in prevents this error.

Hi Gang,

I am scared shitless when it comes to using Pheonix. I wonder if it's possible to change the product code in NSS and then update the firmware with NSU. I guess it also depend if Nokia has the firmware for N80ie on the upgrade link. I hope some1 can shed some light.

Cheers,

ikdo

Flash my N80 lat night. All seems to work OK. It was lock free (01). Now it is N80I PB (01)
EDIT: I did not change the CODE with NSS. Phoenix warn about it and modify the code
during the proccess

Yes it is possible and no the N80IE firmware is not currently avialable on the NSU

To be honest once the software is installed Pheonix is as easy to use as the NSU and to be honest is in my view safer than the NSU

I have heard more 'brick' stories from people updating with the NSU than through Pheonix.

Woohoo.... again an new proud owner of a upgraded N80ie. Worked without any probs and had to do the flashing twice because of missing dutch language in the EURO1 pack.

Now quickly continuing with voip, truphone and restoring all my old installed stuff.

BTW, did anyone restored data from its mem card or pc suite backup files ?

Thanks for sharing all the knowledge and tools,

There's been a warning posted in AAS forums that restoring a backup made in a previous FW can cause minor problems... best to use PC Suite to re-sync your contacts etc.

I've already got a working 2006 Phenoix on my computer, do I need to uninstall that before downloading and extracting the 2 firmware versions?

And by running the firmware do you mean extracting it? Or is it actually an .exe file?

You probably don't have to do this, but my own best practice is to delete the folder c:\program files\nokia\phoenix\products\rm-92 to completely remove old firmware before extracting a new N80 firmware for use with Phoenix.

When people talk about running the firmware, they almost certainly mean double clicking the exe to extract it from the distributable package to the above folder. You need to launch Phoenix to actually flash the firmware into an N80.

One additional thing, I read somewhere that Nokia's changelog recommends upgrading to Phoenix 2006.34.2.156 for full compatibility with the IE firmware. I certainly always follow this advice as I don't want to risk bricking my phone. What versions of Phoenix 2006 did other forum users flash IE with?

Hi Edd,

You can flash any language you wish into your N80. Just select one of alternative Product Codes from the Software Flash Menu of Phoenix 2006.

If you are happy with the languages available in the variant you have, you may as well leave things as is - every FW flash has the potential to brick your phone if somthing goes wrong - e.g. Computer crash, USB cable disconnect.

There seems to be a Firmware release every 6-8 weeks for the N80 at present, so you could wait until the next release, then change to a UK or Euro variant.

There are 2 Rapidshare's

Rapidshare.com and Rapidshare.de

Both require you to subscribe to their own premium service, you can't for example use a .com login on the .de site

Hi everybody,

I bought N80 because it has VoIP but when i try to login to gizmo ot voipbuster nothing happens.

I decidet that may be i should update my firmware with NSU after that i download an update trought my wireless network from its menu an version of FW was 4.0623.0.42 but again i received message "failed to register" in my sip profiles.

I read in other forums how to change my firmware but i didn't look what version I'm trying to install. When I start flashing it's tell me that i try to install an older version 3.xxxx.x.xx and phone rang the bell.

After that I bring it to nokia local service center and tell them what happens because i don't have warranty. I told them that i want SIP working. They take me 15 euro to repair it and tells me to update it trought wireless after i get home. Gess what? Of course it didn't working with SIP.

Ok now on my questions...

Is FW from N80 IE will work with SIP?
What is the latest version of N80IE FW, because i know latest version is 4.0623.0.38?

My N80 FW now is 4.0623.0.42.
Is it possible to get the same erorr if I try to install N80IE FW 4.0623.0.38, or I must wait for a newer firmware?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Dunarea,

I find that as long as you do all of the following you don't need to reinstall windows to (re)install a working copy of Phoenix...

1. Uninstall Phoenix, Diego, and ALL Nokia Apps using the Add/Remove Programs applet in the control panel.
2. Launch Windows Explorer and DELETE C:\Program files\Nokia (and all others folders beginning with or containing "Nokia")
3. Reboot the PC before trying to re-install Phoenix.

Hi,

1. Yes, you can flash with NSS, but I have never tried it myself, I prefer Phoenix.

2. You can only flash upwards and not downwards in versions of FW so the xxx in your example is more significant than the 42 to 38 bit...
e.g. You could flash from 4.0623.0.42 to 4.0632.0.38
but you cannot flash from 4.0632.0.38 to 4.0623.0.42
...And the first character of the firmware number is even more significant than the others...
e.g. You could flash from 3.0617.0.38 to 4.0001.0.10 (if it existed!),
but you could never flash from 4.xxxx.x.xx to any 3.xxxx.x.xx FW.

Hope that makes sense?

but you cannot flash from 4.0632.0.38 to 4.0623.0.42
...And the first character of the firmware number is even more significant than the others...
e.g. You could flash from 3.0617.0.38 to 4.0001.0.10 (if it existed!),
but you could never flash from 4.xxxx.x.xx to any 3.xxxx.x.xx FW.

Hope that makes sense?

Thank a lot. I already know that I can't flash from 4.xxxx.x.xx to 3.xxxx.x.xx.
Last month i went to nokia service center because I forget to compare the two versions.

Now my N80 has 4.0623.0.42 and the newest N80i FW is 4.0632.0.38 thats mean that I should have a successful flash, shouldn't I?

I have one question more.

Because I don't know which firmware is better for 0539363 or for 0542811. If I install the first one is it possible after that to reinstall the second one. They both are equal versions.

Hi,

1. Yes, you can flash with NSS, but I have never tried it myself, I prefer Phoenix.

Hey Dez....

Its only possible to flash with NSS if you have the Dongle bypass ... I have never managed to find this, if any body has it would be Interesting to know about it ..

Hi Cash,

Many thanks for clarifying the issue.

I have never tried to flash with NSS so although I knew the program was capable of doing it I didn't know it also required a dongle.

Anyway, I don't think anyone will improve on Nokia's own Phoenix suite so I will stick to that for FW flashing, as it's never let me down.

Nowadays it's not possible you to downgrade form N80i to N80. If you try you will damage the phone. There are two ways to downgrade. First is to wait until nokia make newer firmware than 4.0.632.0.38 for N80 and the second is Nokia Service Center.

You can find actual product code of your phone under the battery.

Hi Cash
thanks for your guide. For me worked well!.
I had just a problem with the phoenix crack (dongle).
I have a Win 2000 pc.
The default directory of phoenix crack is c:\\windows\system32
I was unable to complete the installation until I discovered that on my win 2000 the correct path is c:\\WINNT\system32.
I'm a mac user and perhaps this is a "normal" things to change for win users but I really lost a lot of time trying to click "fast and furious" on retry and install buttons.

Hope this info will help another "dummy" pc user like me ! :-)

Hi all,

I was able to DL everything but the 90034285_RM-92_IE_EMEA_PR_dp_v15.01_SW4.0632.0.38
file.

I signed up for service and everything at megauploads, but still no luck. Am I doing something wrong, or is there another location for the file? I would also be willing to accept the file if someone was willing to send it to me, I'm not sure how large it is though.

Any suggestions would be great. In the meantime I'll keep trying.

It's over 51Mb to soo large for Messenger or email. Try this link...

Yes, because 4.0623 is lower than 4.0632, you would be upgrading to 4.0632.

Hi Guys I successfully upgraded my N80 to N80ie - Thanks to Cash's guidelines. Everything went ok, except for this message every time that I switch on my phone....

"Unable to complete installation from the Memory Card. To install remaining applications go to App.mgr"

I also have these strange copies under my AppManager.

I have been told somewhere to use a Card Reader and delete a folder named Uninstall.

I did that but this did not resolve the problem. Is there another way to do it or give me a directory using a Card Reader?? Thanks guys:mad:

User Apps Manager to delete any corrupted or partly-installed apps when then memory card is in the phone.

After upgrade to IE there is 1 thing which remarkble is improved, WLAN recievement. First I could connect only on 1st floor or approx 10 metres. Now with IE I connect on 3rd floor or in open field over 30 metres. Walking through the city shows up much more (open) AP's.

Anyone has the same experience?

hi bros,

With the guides, i had successfully flash my n80 to n80i. Really like it alot.

But now there is a question from me.

Previously during the flash, i use the product code from hong kong as i cant find the product code of my country. Now is there any way to change it to some other code after i had managed to locate the code? Will there be any concern of just changing the code if there is some way to do it. Thanks and hope to hear from all.

so, after you have upgraded to N80IE, what does change? I mean, can I still use PC suite? The phoenix software is unknown to me. Is it some "crack" program?
Do i need to keep on using it, after the upgrade? Or is there no differentce at all between an upgraded N80 to N80IE and an original N80IE.
My concern is, that when there are updates to the N80IE software, what I have to do then. I would like to continue the nokia software (pc suite) although it's maybe not the best software there is. And also concerned I will some time in the future a message when updating, that my (updated to N80IE) nokia will be refused by nokia update.... I know, technically, the N80 and N80IE are the same, but I guess, nokia software can discover which nokia was originally N80 or N80IE...

thanks for the info here ... I wished nokia had an upgrade path.... but, this will do also I guess...
Just a bit scared to ruin my expensive phone....

Hi Suy,

The answer to your question about pheonix:- Its just a program to force update the nokia n80 to be an n80ie. Pheonix and all the other programs can be unistalled after you have updated your n80, you can then reinstall PC Suite. As to the n80 updating question regarding nokia and refusing to support the n80ie (n80 forced to be n80ie) I am unsure on this as Nokia havent released an update for me to test this using the PC suite update facility. Before I updated my n80 to n80ie i used the nokia live update facility and it just updated my n80 to the latest n80 version (last night) and at that time I couldnt select N80ie on their phone list.

I then followed this guide and updated to n80ie, after updating i uninstalled pheonix and all the other programs and drivers etc and re-installed pc suite, all is working fine.

This process can kill your phone so if you do this and it fails then no one but you can accept or take responsibility. But I can say it worked fine for me and my phone is now n80ie fully working and with a lot more options and use than the n80 had.

Its all upto you.

hope this is of help

@suy,

yes i can use nokie pc suite. i uninstalled all phoenix and diego etc. apps. then installed pc suite and synced with outlook with no probs.

btw, the font has been changed to the previous n80's firmware one. i mean, the version 3.xxx has this font type. after upgraded to v4.xx font was much more beautiful on n80, now we turned back to the old font type.. :(

it seems like that, this n80ie has been planned way ago, so the they used the old font type. what do you think?

In my opinion it is not required to uninstall phoenix to install PC Suite. I'v done that and everything is working 100%. So now I have working Phoenix and PC Suite. Of course you cannot run both programs in parallel

Don't shoot the newbie and I apologise in advance if I upset the regulars. I know newbies can be annoying as I'm a mod on a different MB altogether.

I am from the UK, I have a N80 and after 6 months am already on my third handset because the software kept freezing etc.

I thought I was quite up to date with technology but reading this thread makes me realise I'm not!

I would like to update the firmware software as my phone is starting to slow down again and it's so annoying. I might as well update to the N80 IE software in the process.

I appreciate the step by step guide above but some of the terms don't mean anything to me.

Could someone PM me please, so I don't annoy everyone the best way to go about things. I am nervous about trying any updates until I am completely happy I know what I'm doing.

PS - I understand the Nokia official website updates are a no-no, is that right?

Thanks

First of all what firmware do you have?
(Press *#0000#)

Also what network are you on?

To start off with if you flash to N80IE and something goes wrong then you have no warranty as you will have voided it. Also you can not flash back to your current version so you will be stuck with the N80IE and from what I have read there are quiet a few bugs with it!

Best thing is to update to via Nokia's website!

Or flash to the Nokia generic version which is what I did and my device has not crashed once since!

Thanks for the reply.

I am on Orange.

That's why I was worried to flash it because of the warranty. I'm not fussed about the N80 IE firmware if it has bugs.

A very stable N80 firmware update would suffice. I was warned that the Nokia updates are worst than most so I'm unsure about the official updates, especially as they would also void the warranty.

The official nokia updates are the ones to go for, they will not void your warranty, these will be on the nokia web site accessed through the software update facility in PC suite, The N80IE will void warranty as it has not officially been released yet, just try the official ones 1st and see how you get on. someone correct me if im wrong

by the way i am also on orange and had the old 3xxxx ver firmware, its was pants!!

I had no problems at all when i used the nokia update program, although it seemed to hang at around 75% for about 5mins which was scarey moment ;) but it worked fine other than the fear it put in me. If you are at all unsure about your warranty or whatever maybe take the phone to the shop you bought it from and get them to do the update , obviously they will not update it to n80ie but at least u will have the safety that if they mess it up u are under warranty :)

GL with it and hope it fixes your problems.

The nokia update worked for me, so thumbs up as far as i am concerned but technology is always touch and go , works for one person doesnt always work for the next

That explains it then!

Your running on v3, My phone came with that and it constantly crashed that was when it had finished running at a snails pace!

Upgrading to V4 makes such a difference, My phone has not crashed once since!

As somebody pointed out, just upgrade using the software provided on the nokia website. This will not void your warranty so if anything goes wrong your covered!

One thing I will point out is that the orange firmware is known to have many problems, if I was you flash it with generic software as I done and you will never look back!

If they compare the product code that is writen in the label under the battery, with the new product code (for the internet edition), they will know that you did something to your phone..

Yes, but using NSS, you could change the product code back to match the label behind the battery... providing the phone works OK and responds to NSS.

I download all software from links from first post in this thread, and used Bulgarian version of Perl Black IE. Only thing that i warried about was surge current, but if you have UPS or Notebook, everything will be fine.
Now everything is good, phone start for the same time as old FW but operates faster in everything else, ohh and now I have Internet telephone.

Hello,
I'm just about ready to flash my pearl black N80 to an N80ie using pheonix and the very good insructions to do so earlier in this thresd.
The one thing that I'm unsure about is:

"9, copy pheonix crack and framework.dll into pheonix folder (this is the folder that you installed pheonic into . probably C:\Program Files\Nokia\Phoenix (but this may be different on your PC)"

I can copy the 'framework.dll' to the folder
I'm just unsure which is the 'pheonix crack' to copy to the folder too, it's probably staring me in the face!

Please can somebody point me in the right direction?

Greetings All,

i'm new to this forum and to N80-1.

i have a question that i would need some advice on. but first let me tell you guys about my situation first.

I live in Brazil, and i just got this N80-1.
My operator is Brazilian TIM (GSM 1800mhz).
I bought the unlocked version of the phone.
My firmware is the lastest one available from NSU.
My product code is 0533239, wich seems to be a generic one, for brazil, with brazilian portuguese, PT-BR language pack.

i want to upgrade to N80IE, to improve the performance of the phone.
I was a proud owner of a Nokia 6230, and it was a faster phone, and i could change the track of the music player from the button on the headset, a thing that on N80 is only possible on FM Radio, not on music player as Nokia 6230.

but aside from that, the N80 is very slow responsive against Nokia 6230. That's why i want to firmware to N80IE, as people have been reporting that is has a better speed.

as you can see, i know english, and i could do without a phone with brazilian portuguese, but i need it so i have the predictive text input in brazilian portuguese, wich i use to send SMS to my mates.

so here comes my question. Can i upgrade my N80 to N80IE, and keep my brazilian language option on the phone (just because of Predictive Input)????????????????

Because from what i saw from region code listings, there is no Brazil in it, not even portugal. Yes, i know that there are EUROs option... but portugal portuguese language would do me no good. i need brazilian portuguese. For those who do not know, it is something like British English to American English (a little bit worse actually).

can anyone tell me what would be the best option for me, cause i want to upgrade, but i think i will loose the brazilian portuguese language pack.

Thanks in advance for reading all this, and for taking a time to help me.

Thankis Nigma,
I'm having the same problem, any chance you could post what you did with the sdk to make it work?

Thanks

Jim

Excellent, Thanks for the help.
Managed to get it working by also installing the Series 60 SDK which I previously missed. After installing everything I restarted. Did the Pheneox stuff, restarted and it all works now.

Quick question.... I flash in the EURO 1 Perl Black... But what's the differences between EURO1, EURO2, EURO3 and the two UK images?

Thanks,
A.

I got this error trying to flash my N80:

http://www.vigani.it/images/error.jpg

As you can see I created a new Virtual Machine and installed the required software only.

Any solution to this problem?

I flashed my phone today after it finished flashing with phoenix it failed under the test mode. Phone is working fine and it registers as the newest firmware version. I don't really see anything different from the internet edition versus the older version I had. I did do a restore from memory card after i finish reflashing it. I did see a internet folder before i restored but afterwards it was gone.

Thanks for any comments

Hi, I would like to flash my Nokia N80 to Internet edition, my question is this: If I use this firmware code "0539363 EURO 1 Pearl Black Internet Edition" and I live in Mexico, (I don't care about Spanish language) my phone will work fine here in Mexico ???

Or where could I get the correct firmware for my country ?
Please I'm new about this, need help,

Thanks !

It should work fine, don't see any reason why not. Regional packages differ in language packs and some applications (don't know exactly which one). But you shouldn't have any problem as long as you will use English, which i believe is found in each package.

Thanks in advance for reading all this, and for taking a time to help me.

nobody replyed to my post.... is there any hope?

Hey!
As far as I know, there is still no PT-BR language Pack..
I'm form Portugal, so I've been searching Brasilian foruns and everybody is still waiting for the Product Code and firmware for South-America..
Guess you'll have to wait..

Yes, restoring a backup made in a previous FW will delete the Internet Folder and could also cause intermittent problems in use. I suggest you format the N80IE with *#7370# to reset the internal phone memory as an N80IE.

I am going to flash my N80 to N80IE. Could somoeone (that already have flashed it maybe) tell me the supported languages in the European firmware?

I will be at the safe side before i do anything with it. Its not a cheap mobile to waste, thats for sure...

I assume that installing a 'non branded' firmware would not unlock the phone for use on other networks but simply allow me to use a firmware that is not officially sanctioned by my service provider... correct?

Has anybody successfully upgraded their N80 using phoenix on mac/intel hardware under bootcamp? Does phoenix work under bootcamp?

Its a Solution , I'll take any option just now , but Might hold off and try track down someone local with one that I could borrow ( or just pay )

Considering I've messed up once anyone point me to somewhere that will do it for me ( I know there will be a charge )

3. Because you chose the Gulf PBIE profile manually in Phoenix your product code should now match the one you installed (0542489)
