Also installed the Internet Edition Firmware. Only languages in my variant are English, and what looks like Chinese. The fonts are slightly bigger than my older firmware.

One problem I have spotted is that it won't play .awb audio files any more

I'd tread with care on this one as I've just killed my N80

Using the Diego/Phoenix software and the latest v4 firmware tried to upgrade my N80 on Vodafone.

All was going fine until the end of the firmware upgrade when the phone should be restarted to complete the update. I won't restart. Powers up, but doesn't do anymore than the screen lighting up (white) and the blue flashing light.

Many thanks for the link and I can confirm it flashed fine with Phoenix on my Euro Black N80.

One thing I have noticed (via Taskman)... after powering up the N80, I used to have about 17Mb RAM free. Now I only have about 15Mb. Presumably the new IE functions take up more phone RAM? This could have a downside on the Web browser with large web pages (e.g. eBay). I will do some testing and let folks know if there's any differences to browser reliability.

to use Gizmo you have to have the N80i or upgrade your N80 to the N80i Firmware....Gizmo wont install otherwise..

It says somewhere on the website that Gizmo app will not work with the standard N80..I also tried to install and the installation failed, aparantly the app is an easy way to configure Gizmo with the extra sip stufff of the N80 Internet Edition......

Thanks CASH but what is the difference between the gizmo plug in (which I can download) and the gizmo download, the later wants me to do it from my phone, but when i access the page there is no option to download the software ( is this due to me not having ie firmware installed) I read the other forum and cant see why gizmo wont work on a standared N80 as using TiVi Voip works....is this a fault with the sis file like the other forum says or is it, nokia protecting it for use on only certain phones?

I found a bug in my newly flashed N80. i recently flashed my normal N80 to the N80 IE APAC V4.0632.0.38 and i realised that on certain occasion when i click on the WLAN scanner on the active standby, a system error pops up and i have no choice but to restart my phone. the system error has popped up 3 times so far, out of the 15 times i scanned for a WLAN network, 3 times this message has appeared. anyone can shed any light on this matter?

other than that, the new FW is stable and WLAN connection seemed alot faster compared to my N80 with the 'normal' firmware. my fonts have gotten slightly slimmer, new menus such as the internet folder, and previously i could not have FOTA due to it being operator locked, now i have it readily available.

Yes Euro1 is best for UK.

You can choose the UK CV variant if you have installed the 15.01 update package but if you do you can't switch between 'silent' & 'general' profiles by holding down # (as I found out:con?) however that is a minor problem.

I used the 2006.34.2.156 version, uninstall the old version etc and then reinstall the new version following the instuctions in BB5 Reaper.

Worked fine for me, although as I stated before you may need to leave the sim card in if the mode won't change.

Flashed using pheonix with the 15.00 and 15.01 upgrades installed to Euro 1 PB internet Edition, (no smooth stainless available) but I don't have the Wireless lan scanner that people are mentioning, everything else is ok I think.
The ones that have this app available which variant did you use to flash?

You don't need to flash again to 15.01, what you should have done is installed both at the same time.

Then chosen your product code usually Euro1 etc

but if you have already flashed you have the latest version

All 15.01 does is add more support for different product codes so different regions and networks can flash, it is NOT a firmware update.

JAF is one of the best tooling and flashing softwares. when you install the firmware pack, with JAF you are able to select from the entire product code available for APAC or EMEA whichever you downloaded. Selecting the product you want, it'll select the corresponding firmware, product pack and language pack.

i personally don't own one, but my cousin does and that's where i flashed my phone. he owns a mobile store, i'll ask him where he got it and will get back to you as soon as i find out

Firmware flash works great, got another 2 N80's todo now.

The VOIP stuff works fine, registers with asterisk through a nat proxy makes and receives calls.

However, if you restore a backup made with the old V4 firmware you loose some of the N80ie stuff , the Wlan wizard fails to work properly.

So have to work out a way of pulling my contacts off the phone - reflash the firmware then just restoring the contacts back on (cant do this via Outlook as I do not use it).

Charlie, which would you reccommend to use VOIP, Truphone or Gizmo.....what are the benefits and differences, and as you have tried Truphone, can you compare the quality and ease of use of both Gizmo and Truphone.

At first look Gizmo (previously I used TIVI but now converted to Gizmo) now gets my vote, especially as it has a PC client.

There both just as easy to use, once set up, both work great, i give the upper hand to TruPhone just because its 100% free to and from landlines, at least at this current point in time, my vote might switch once we get to 2007.

well its 100% free if other N80 users manage to get an account, or its released before the free peroid finishes...which I doubt, its probably the reason why they didnt release it yet....

The big minus for me is that Truphone dont have and are not planning to have a client for the PC....but as long as they allow both in and out calls to other sip clients like Gizmo then Its something that I can put up with (because many of my friends only have VOIP through their PC)....I just tried calling my TIVI account from my N80 to my Gizmo account on the PC and visa versa in all combinations and all calls went through ok ...so I would think that Truphone should allow this...

And gizmo seems to work fine for me....very clear calls and virtually no lag at all...

I quite like the sound of their "all calls free"plan also
http://support.gizmoproject.com/FAQs/freecalls.php

Quite good if I need to call somebody and their PC is off, but its limited to just some countries at the moment, (France and UK are fine which is good for me) but they say they are looking to add more..

well you can sign up from your PC...you can download the Gizmo client for PC and when you run it you get the option to register an account,

then you enter those account details into your phone in the options where you try to connect Gizmo to the network

But there does seem to be a problem with phones not connecting to the Gizmo network, specofically E61, but I also have problems connecting so this may also be an N80i problem also..

I have downloaded Phoenix and cracks and tried installing all afternoon, on two different computers. No joy. When i managed to finish installing, after i restarted and clicked phoenix, it kept asking for dongle, replaced cracked files and then it said 'illegal operation'. Tried on a laptop, could not go past the 'dongle required' in installation phase, no matter how fast i clicked to overwrite the dll files. Then i tried on a win2000 (second os on my pc) and could not make it work there either. I am at the end of my patience, anyone had these problems? I can see all of you guys managed to do it without problems, i thought it was my computer first, but the second computer didn't work either.

Ado Jedi.
Try uninstalling everything nokia related and then run nokia pc suite cleaner
LINK: http://www.nokia.co.uk/A4144912
Go into C drive and check in Documents and Settings (make hidden folders visable in folder options) and delete any nokia/pc suite related folders.
Then do a fresh install of Phoenix making sure the dongle crack is already open and you're ready to hit the install button as soon as required.
Worked for me. Hope this helps.

Uninstall EVERTHING to do with nokia..including diego, pheonic, conectivity drivers...absolutely everything

then get the lates reaper get it here http://www.schwantz-i.org/nokia/BB5%20Reaper-2006.zip zip password: i-ztnawhcs

then follow the instructions, if you cant get the download links in reaper to work, there are alternatives for pheonix and diego in this thread somewhere

install diego

install pheonic then install the dongle crack (quickly)

then restart computer and patch pheonix with the crack

then it should work

The BBReaper link further up on this page is a step by step guide really. The only other thing you need to know is further back on this thread. If you're using Phoenix to flash then you should really do the research behind it... it's not really meant for basic users and can give you severe problems if you don't know the full implications for your device.

If you check my posts...and posts of others you will find that there is a great deal of help here....its important for you to know exactly what you are doing because if you get it wrong you can damage your phone...and the only way to do that is to read all the posts in this thread..Ok it may take you some time...but it will be worth it if it prevents you damaging your phone

I have mentioned before and given a link to a program called reaper that is a foolproof guide to upgrading your firmware.

Uninstall all nokia related software and drivers from your system,

Download both the files below

EMEA 15.00 Package:
http://www.megaupload.com/es/?d=ZTNNMFKD

EMEA 15.01 Update:
http://www.megaupload.com/es/?d=NHV66BID

run 15.00 first and then 15.01

download reaper and follow the instructions

1, download Diego, pheonix, dongle crack and pheoinix crack

2, install diego

3, install pheonix and install crack when it tells you to, you may have to do this step a few times because you have to be very quick to install the crack and overwrite all files

4, copy the pheonix crack and dll into the pheonix folder.

run pheonix and update your firmware.

Again all steps are in the reaper program,

Been trying to update all day from .41 to the IE 15.01, but i just cannot get phoenix working

ive tried reinstalling about 5 times, cleaned up the PC beforehand, uninstalling and deleting EVERYTHING

ive even redownloaded everything from different servers and installed from these new files and still no joy. I follow BB5 exactly and as soon as i go to open Phoenix i get the following messages :icon13:

I spend my entire day yesterday trying to install Phoenix, getting all sorts of errors. This morning i performed a clean windows install on a different partition, then followed the instructions to the letter, so i managed to install Phoenix. Then connected my phone and flashing was a breeze. Thank you guys who posted all the files and instructions, i guess the problems i was having were because somehow, even though i uninstalled PcSuite and the other Nokia programs, some files were still left on my PC, so the clean windows install sorted all my problems, I am now the happy owner of a N80 Internet Edition (just done it 5 min ago).
For some reason you have to install Diego first, crack it, then install Phoenix. Although Diego doesn't seem to do anything, Phoenix will not work if you don't install diego first.
Good luck to all of you guys doing this!

help!

all the links for the latest diego seem dead... can someone upload again?>

Or will the old diego do?? (55667793_Diego_3_06.msi)

I think Diego provides one or two DLL's that Pheonix relies on.

I installed my copies of Phoenix and Diego on a Virtual machine (VMWare) so that I didn't have to worry about messing around with installing and uninstalling PC Suite and friends. That method works perfectly by the way.

Same here, another successful flash to Internet Edition woo! Used a crappy old Dell Pentium 600MHz PC to do it because I didn't want to remove Nokia stuff on my main PC, so it took bloody ages and thought I was going to run out of battery but twas ok!

The wifi/gizmo integration is awesome! Can't believe this upgrade isn't being offered as standard to all existing N80 customers, its just software, what a joke.

Thanks Cash,....

I was able to successfully upated to the new firmware(0539363-Euro1 Pearl Black). But i am getting the following error while trying to use some of the features.

1. FOTA update . When i tried to do that i get a message saying "operation cancelled by server

2. There are no SIP profiles defined in internet phone profiles.

Can you tell me if i have flashed the wrong firmware region.

To have the above features working which firmware code i need to check. Also will it be possible to re-flash the same firmware with a different region code.

Kindly advice.

vin_eme, the FOTA update may fail if the N80ie has not been added to Nokia's over the air system.

You will not have any SIP profiles provided - you will need to configure these yourself or obtain the information from your SIP provider.

Cheers,

Yeah works for me too, I think it doesn't work if you choose to flash to the 'UK CV' version as opposed to Euro 1, but don't quote me on that.

I think many phones are bricked because of the sh*t Nokia USB cable, when ever I flash a phone I just leave it alone in a room by itself for 30 mins and ban anybody going near the computer, even knocking the table sometimes dissconnects my cable from the phone momentarilly.

I know this doesnt help you but may be a reason, and something to look out for in the future

I amost bricked my phone a few days ago (my own stupidity but we will not go into that!). Flashing got to 100%, reported Successful but the handset took ages to boot up then reported System Error and locked up.

I believe there's a very good chance that a hard reset will boot up a dead flash as long as the flash process got to 100% before something went wrong.

The hard reset procedure is relatively simple....

Power off the handset
Hold down GREEN, 3 and *
Power on the handset (keep the three buttons held down)
Wait 30-60 seconds and the handset should boot up normally.

If the hard reset doesn't work first time, power off the handset and try again. It's very easy to accidentally let go of one of the three buttons for a fraction of a second, which aborts the hard reset. There used to be a dead-phone flash process in Phoenix but it was taken out of the product several releases ago.

Unfortunately, if hard reset repeatedly fails, and Phoenix can't connect & attempt to re-flash the handset, it's probably time for a trip to the nearest NCC with an innocent dog-eyes look on your face and a sob story that your handset 'just stopped working...'.

Sorry, if Hard Reset doesn't resurrect it, you probably need a Nokia Care Centre. Just claim it stopped working, or that NSU bricked it. You will need to supply the original invoice or despatch note when the phone was first purchased to get FREE repair.

Alternatively,... older versions of Phoenix contained a dead-phone flash function. I still have the setup files for Phoenix 2004 and could upload them to rapidshare for you tonight. However i am not 100% sure if this version (a) has the Dead Flash Mode and (b) supports the N80. It's up to you if you want to try or not.

Hi all, I've flashed my N80 to N80IE without problems, and have one question:

Will the official Nokia Updater now recognize my phone as N80IE and provide the relevant firmware updates, or will it still be recognized as the standard N80?

I haven't changed the product code on my phone prior to the flash, but maybe the product code was automatically changed during the flashing.

Cheers

I think it changed the code automatically when you chose Euro1 PatinaBronze/Pearl Black. And i don't think you will be able to update it via Nokia Update, you will always have to use Phoenix. That is what I heard anyway.

Not true, NSU will read the new code that is flashed when you update your firmware via phoenix and offer the update based on the new code.

I have updated my N80 via Phoenix 3 times and NSU once and FOTA once with no problems.

I think if you set the code to N80IE before flashing it will still have that code installed, and NSU will believe it's a genuine IE edition.

Hi there,

It didnt have a dead phone flash option nor did it have an RM 92 product option :(

thanks for the help though!

Anyone out there got any other ideas? I took the N80 to the NCC and the chap that deals with Nokias is on long term sick leave. Nobody else could help. My need is great, as this is my business phone!

Did you get your phone via a Network Providor? E.G. O2, Vodafone, etc?
If so, they should allow you to send it back to them for repair/replacement.

If you bought it privately, e.g. eBay, ask the seller if he can send it back to his or her Network Provider.

Finally, Phone the Nokia Careline and ask if you can mail the phone directly to them for repair as your nearest NCC is not currently operational due to the long term staff illness.

Glad your phone is now working. Same thing happened to me after the N80IE flash, but that was my own fault as I did not follow the normal procedure!

A Hard Reset is the last chance to revive a dead N80, before visiting a Nokia Repair shop.
