Oh no, we're going in the wrong direction here. I was hoping the new FW would be available this week, and instead we lose the current one. :o
On the positive side, it might be an indication to that the new FW is actually coming along next week...
Jules_N93 15-11-2006, 11:46 AM I'm not gonna wait for it Goodcop. I got everything I need to do it myself. I'll let you know the results later today.
Twinnie 15-11-2006, 12:31 PM What have you got and are you sharing it?
Jules_N93 15-11-2006, 05:15 PM There are flash-files floating around on the internet, and also flashing software for flashing BB5-phones. They are easy enough to find, so no need to post the names on a decent forum like aas. A number of people managed to flash their N93 to 20.0.058 with them.
I tried today, but it didn't work; the flashing software didn't give me the option I needed. It did allow for flashing S40, not S60. I'll try with a newer version of the flashing software later, and post the results.
Jules_N93 15-11-2006, 09:32 PM Hahaaaaa i did it! Yarrrrrr! Went very smoothly, altho i had to choose a slightly different method from the one in the tutorial i found. Now reinstalling all my software =D
Jules_N93 15-11-2006, 10:25 PM hahaaaa!!! It worked! Gaming is flawless now! Yarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr rr

That's so awesome, you bastard!! :)
ahhhhg...will...wait...for...NSU......must...resis t...flash....
Twinnie 18-11-2006, 05:32 PM Jackpot, I got it working as well. She's just restarting now after restoring my stuff from the memory card. Took me five minutes to find the firmware then like two days to get it on my phone. Stupid software wouldn't work for ages.
*edit*
Just been playing Donkey Kong on my phone, still can't even do the first level.

Jules_N93 - ive managed to grab the firmware files and installed the exe file, but what do i do next??
Do i just proceed to the Nokia Update program??
Jules_N93 21-11-2006, 02:21 PM You need software for flashing it. If you found the firmware, i'm sure you can also find the software you need and a tutorial. There are other forums where these issues are discussed freely, like http://www.gsmhosting.com/vbb/index.php
The onyl thing i noticed is that the option "software update" was absent, and i had to use "firmware update" instead. I then had to choose the right product code. I used "normal" mode for flashing.
Good luck!
GoodCop 22-11-2006, 06:12 PM Almost uninstalled all my legit Nokia software and was heading the dark road of home-flashing yesterday, but snapped out of it. I'm such a p***y.
Have a question regarding the Nokia Software Update application:
Will maybe repeatedly clicking the "try again" button make Nokia work a little faster with publishing the firmware up there? Or is that almost like a Denial Of Service attack? And if so, did they start it by denying us service in the first place? The firmware exsists, it's working, it's in the centers, it's on the unofficial web! Where's that swift working firmware update publishing commando force when we really need it? Is there one? There must be one! Right?
Yeah, I know. It's so sad. :) I have more important things to do. Really.
Twinnie 22-11-2006, 07:28 PM I never even looked for 'software update', it's not the software your changing, it's the firmware. Maybe your thinking of an older version of the flashing software in question. I used .153 of the 2006 version.
Mine flashed without a hitch, didn't even take long. I was playing Super Mario Land earlier as well.
Jules_N93 23-11-2006, 10:25 AM Yeah i know it's really the firmware i'm changing, but the tutorial i got (a very recent one!) stated i had to use software update. The step afther that was also different from the step i had to take when selecting firmware update.
GoodCop: can't be long till they release it i guess. You don't have a NCS near you?
GoodCop 23-11-2006, 09:55 PM As I understand it, "software" is basically Nokia's consumer friendly way of saying firmware. Prolly some PR consultant who adviced them to, and charged them plenty for the advice. Confusing is what it is.
GoodCop: can't be long till they release it i guess. You don't have a NCS near you?
They have a couple centers 110km from here, but they won't do it on the go (or at least in a few hours) last I asked. I'm not leaving my baby for days for that...by principle, more or less. Strange, since it's such a quick fix.
Nah, I'll just wait a bit longer for NSU, and in the meanwhile I'll just self-indulge in self pity until I'll finally decide to do it myself. :-)
