And my phone is on 3 UK.

I really like the phone but it is very slow and seems to just hang for several seconds when I send texts etc, from reading the threads on here I can see that the slowness and hanging seem to be very common issues with the phone.

I just wanted to ask a question about the firmware, when I look about I see there is a Nokia website firmarw upgrader. To me this sounds like the safer way for me to do it myself as I have never done this before. However even though the V4 software has been available since August and the V5 is apparently coming out soon, the upgrader tells me there is no update for my phone.

Nokia service centres seem to have this update so I am confused as to why Nokia's website wouldn't.

I suppose it gives me some sort of strange comfort to know that people are having issues with this phone no matter what network they are on.

Does anyone out there have any idea when the Nokia website updater will actually have all the current versions of the software? Otherwise it just seems a bit of a dumb application. Motorola and Samsung have updaters on their sites with alwats have the most up to date software, so why is nokia lacking behind.

I still have faith in the N80! Admittedly though this probably won;t last much longer.

You have a network branded phone so your firmware upgrades need to be approved by 3 prior to release through Nokia's updater. This is a common problem for all network branded handsets (O2, Orange, 3, etc...).

The text hanging issue has been resolved through installation of Nokia's SMS Accelerator application - http://www.europe.nokia.com/A4149142

The NSCs have the 3 version in the UK. I got mine done last weeek and the version on it now is 4.0623.0.41 RM92 45.02.

Cool - and can I install it myself ? (the firmware application I have on my desktop...)


Three - N80 user (and very happy with both, although I do miss my 6630 at times)

And now after a visit to the Service Centre and installing the SMS accelerator...

Oddly the phone does feel more stable almost straight away!
