Basically m mum has a 6600 and wants an mp3 of my computer as a ringtone but it won't play, presumably 6600's don't support mp3 playback, can it be done somehow?

I'm the same...I just got my 6600 and the only thing that stops it bieng the perfect phone is its lack of mp3 compatability...
