Hi guys,

feel free to register on our new upload-page which can be found here:
http://www.fotodock.com

Upload Images to your own image-folder or to the public shared folder.

We have a certificate now so that the upload will work with any 7650! But note: Dont´s use a WAP-GPRS-connection, use an internet-gprs-connection instead!

Any questions? beta@fotodock.com

That "7650 Configuration" page _could_ be a little better if it used only
1 language at a time :D :D :D

Otherwise looking really great. registered already.

Please note that you can´t use your WAP-Connection, a direct connection via csd, hscsd or gprs is needed to connect to the server. did you ever manage to upload a photo to the nokia photozone?

But uploading won´t be cheaper, if you use FTP. Our uploader not only works with GPRS, you can also use CSD or HSCSD.

Eh? What is CSD? or I guess High Speed CSD? I only have Orange, Orange MMS and Orange GPRS on my 7650, of which, the GPRS is disabled (too expensive to use) and upon selecting just Orange to upload pics as per the settings on FotoDock, I can't make a connection to the server...

I'm guessing the plain vanilla Orange connection is some sort of WAP connection... I'm a total virgin to all this wap/gprs stuff you see ;)

Zippy172
06-12-2002, 06:51 PM
ahh... an equivalent to GPRS is HSCSD, High Speed Circuit Switched Data.... Hmmm, sounds equally as expensive :(

"With Nokia HSCSD, fast access to the Internet will become the norm. Other technologies, such as General Packet Radio Services (GPRS), will complement and enhance the value of HSCSD. There are applications for both circuit-switched and packet-switched world. For instance, if the user needs to make PSTN/ISDN connection (towards corporate modem pools), only HSCSD can be used. HSCSD is ideal for real-time applications and GPRS for "always connected" applications. For example, HSCSD connections provide "active" e-mail and file transfer, while GPRS will run in the background for wireless data networking."

If everybody thinks like you Orange will never lower their GPRS prices. You just have to face the disadvantage of being an early adopter ;) .

LOL, well, I don't use Orange GPRS, so, if everyone thinks like me, Orange won't make a bean from GPRS :P Plank!

You're saying we should stump the cash then wait for Orange to drop the charges? Pfffft, methinks not! It's it the be all and end all, let alone anything 'fast' :agrue:

Does anybody really understand the way Orange charge for GPRS in the UK ?? Perhaps someone can explain it to me

It seems as if you can add a £4 Access Pack to your bill (either for GPRS or HSCSD) that allows you unlimited WAP access - although in the small print, there's a 10Mb per month limit.

But then you have GPRS 'bundles' that cost £4 p/m for 500k of data transfer!! You can use this for internet connections, mail, etc - rather than just wap. I think :-?

I mean, what's the difference?? Surely a GPRS connection is a GPRS connection, if that makes sense?

JyriK
11-12-2002, 02:57 PM
No, there are two types of GPRS connections.
GPRS-WAP
GPRS internet

And that GPRS internet connection works with wap too, atleast here in Finland :D

daveyjohn

GPRS-WAP

Aha. Thanks for that JyriK. That would explain the difference in the prices I suppose.

BTW - if you don't mind me asking, how much do you pay in Finland for GPRS data transfer? £4 for 500k seems ridiculously expensive in Britain, but I wonder how it compares around the world.

£4 in Britain is equivalent to about 37 Finnish Markka according to a currency conversion website I just used. :)

That's the deal I had for precisely one month... Rather stiff over quota charges too if you exceeded your monthly limit :( You can use the connection for whatever you feel like. I used it primarily for sending LONG txts via email basically.

When broadband connections are ubiqutous as the good old fashioned POTS, and when GPRS or HSCSD is the 'norm' for mobile connectivity, I guess we'll eventually see prices come tumbling down...

Personally I would gladly accept spam sms messages to pay for lower cost gprs or much high bandwidth than you currently get on the lowest Orange bundle tariff. 500Kb a month is pitiful.

D'oh! No, of course you don't - I forgot!

Another thing that Britain is behind in.

I think I could live with that price, but I'm not sure anyone in Britain does unmeterred GPRS yet. Although I've suggested it to a friend of mine who works for Orange :D

Hi, has anyone using Vodafone UK as their service provider managed to get this working? I am correctly using a GPRS internet connection (not a WAP one) but the phone always gives me a "Cannot connect to server message". If you've managed to get it working then I'd like to know how, or perhaps to know that I'm not alone! Thanks in advance...

Its not just fotodock ive been battling with the connection settings to connect to the extention im writing for my companies Image gallery software.

I finally managed to get my mail by using the CSD connection but i no matter what i try with the image server settings i cant connect to a server.

Im going to phone vodafone uk in the morning just to make sure they havent bared all connections to any other server other than thier own which isnt live yet.

Cool.

Finally, something that WORKS. Club Nokia is perpetually unavailable. The useless d*cks.

Anyway, here's my $0.02 for 'things to fix'

1. No delete function. Would be nice to be able to delete files I no longer need up there, and it's good to allow other users more space too :)

2. Folders get recreated. I did 2 uploads of the same folder, and now I can get rid of one of them (see (1) above). If I'm uploading the folder, system 'should' check for existing files (check filenames?) and upload only the new ones. Good for your bandwidth, server space, and our GPRS connection fees :)

3. Ability to move images from one folder to another.

4. You ight want to note somewhere, especially for new users, that unless they upload to 'public incoming' or create their own provate folder(s), anything they upload is going to be into the public archive. :D

We are not sure now, how to handle this. Do you want the system to put the images in the existing folder, if you try to upload a complete folder of the same name?

Well ive battled with vodafone UK to get them to sort out my account and provide me with a Internet GPRS connection.

But i still cant get it to work one thing i couldnt even get my mail using the messanging section with the Vodafone GPRS but this is aledgedly because the network doesnt support this ? I thought it was supposed to be an GPRS internet connection.

So anyway ive given up on them for the minute i use my Demon standard modem dialup settings so i can get my mail i can also connect to the Nokia Photo Zone with this but still no joy with fotodock.

Ive tried the public and my own account but nothing wants to work. Anyone had any success connecting with Vodafone UK ?

19-12-2002, 06:47 PM
Hi,
I have complete sympathy with anyone using UK Vodafone. Their tech support is a nightmare as they really haven't got a clue. I have been sent an email from them telling you how to set up an email acount, but it's pretty simple. The problem is most likely the GPRS connection not using an "internet" APN. I have the settings for the correct Vodafone one that I have used for both the internal email program (using POP3) and connecting via infrared to a pocket PC for web browsing and emailing. Therefore don't believe what they tell you. If you want the email telling you the settings (from Vodafone) or my version of the GPRS settings that do work then email me "vodafone"AT"triscott.co.uk". I still cannot get fotodock to work however :( but I hope I can help you.

03-01-2003, 11:33 AM
I am having the same problems with my Vodafone NL account. I cannot upload to fotodock and as I know I am using the GPRS internet connections. Does anybody know how to get this fixed???
Thanx.

Fotodesk is working great and I can upload pictures with GPRS and even with a normal (analog) internet connection. BUT I want more :)

With a 60 series browser, like Doris, you can surf on the internet with a (Doris) Bluetooth internet connection. (Gateway 0.0.0.0). This connection also works great to update your WorldMate weather for example. BUT it doesnt work with Fotodesk :(

"GPRS unavailable" "No internet connection"

It would realy be great if this would work! Uploading with BT rocks! Please help...

I just read that Nokia is gonna stop with Photo Zone (here in the Netherlands and probably in some other countries too). They will continue till 31th of august. Just login club.nokia and see it for yourself.

As alternative they say they are gonna develop a service with Kodak.

This one:
http://nokia.kodak2.de/

This service realy ******  :-?

You cant upload picture from your phone only with a pc!

So If Photo Zone is gonna stop, we only have Fotodock left. Arent there other sites that provide the same services as Fotodock?

Anyway: PLEASE keep Fotodock alive! ;)

You can only connect to fotodock.com using GPRS Internet. It will still cost though. Globe charges P0.25kb++/kb of data transferred. I suggest you just upload/download the photos to/from the PC the photos using PC Suite. Still is the cheapest way.

If you really must send a photo wirelessly. You may try sending it via MMS to your email address.

I wonder what happened to Fotodock. It seems they have abandoned the project. Too bad since its a great alternative with the lost of Photo Zone in Club Nokia.
