Use PC Suite and its File manager to copy files directly to the memory card.

Or in the Messaging app settings, change the "Memory in use" from phone memory to the memory card.

To send via bluetooth and store directly on to the memory card you will have to change your settings to store all of your text messages on the memory card. Otherwise use the data transfer usb cable, or put your memory card in to your computer.

To change the text message settings, from the standby display:
menu > messages > options > settings > other > memory in use > memory card

Have you got the latest pc suite from the nokia website, I think itsversion 6.8, I know there were some issues with the previous version, and some versions that were supplied with the phone

sometimes I have mine not detecting the phone with usb, and I found that sometimes the usb cable connected to the phone didnt make a clean connection, so I pull it out and push it back in again, I also always have to reboot my computer when I get the device not recognosed error when I try to connect my phone and it doesn't work.

Do you have the usb cable drivers installed also ?

may be worth re-installing

Get a usb Card reader?

these19-in-1 etc card devices cost about £5-10...

and are MUCH faster than ANY other method of copying to your memory card.

I can drag and drop albums on it in a few seconds...

But if i was to use N80's usb cable, in "Disk Drive" mode... it takes ages... the same over PC Suite.

just copy the files to you mem card via a card reader, then install them through the file manager, or applications on your phone, or you can download them directly to your phone
