View Full Version : How to disable flashing blue light when in sleep mode..
sorry if this is a dim question but i haven't been able to find the answer in the manual or faq..
when the n80 goes into sleep mode the blue light at the top left flashes... is there any way to disable this or is there something that i am inadvertantly doing to get it to come on?? any help welcome as i am finding it really annoying! Great phone other than that though :)
Master_Payne 22-05-2006, 05:16 PM Ive been having the same problem aswell, and in a dark room its really bright and annoying.
Ratkat 22-05-2006, 05:21 PM All you can do it turn off sleep mode, or do as I do place a bit of card over it at night.

lol I did that but its still annoying, what is the light for anyway?
lol.. think i will opt for turning sleep mode off rather than the bit of card... v disorientatiing when u wake up in the middle of the night...
and why is it there at all???
Master_Payne 22-05-2006, 05:50 PM "sleep mode - select whether the display is switched off to save battery power 20 minutes after the screen saver is activated. When the display is switched off, a LED blinks to indicate that the device is powered on."
Thats from the help option on the phone.
It would be good to still have sleep mode but without the LED.
certainly would be good... kind of seems to negate the point of sleep mode to have the flashing light
Dr, Who? 22-05-2006, 08:16 PM Powering the LED will drain the battery a lot less than powering the screen..........
mrlitman 23-05-2006, 12:55 AM It's perfect next to my Power Book with its throbbing LED. Now I have two lights to cover before sleeping.
It really is a nuisance, I can't believe there isn't an option to disable the flashing blue light in sleep mode.
Is it possible that somebody will someday make an app that gives the option of disabling it?

If its really a big problem then if you get some black nail polish you can just paint over it,
If you ever want to see the light again then the nail polish with scratch of quite easily without damaging the phone,
I find the light quite usefull because as my phone is always in sleep mode, and the battery tends to go flat quite quick, at least I am notified that the phone isn't working anymore.
and I think somebody mentioned here (I didnt test it so just going on hearsay) if you plug the charger in at night the light goes out (not sure how true that is though)
To be truthful, it's not the be all end all of problems. I find that just turning the phone over is a good enough sollution.
I just think it's a shame that Nokia didn't offer the option to disable it, it seems like such an obvious thing to have.

Haha, yes it seems that the obvious things to you and me seem not to be that obvious to Nokia.
The things that I go discovering here. The N80 has a irritating LED to blink in the dark one... He seems like one SE phone then. This is bad, for more does not have a disconnect option...
louise501 16-07-2006, 11:09 PM I have just got my little flashing blue light to work, I love it, I'm leaving mine on :)
Lol this thread again
well no offence but, U can plug ur phone to charger over nights and u wont see the the little light, and if u dont wanna charge it just put a clothe over it and u wont see it, come on it is not anoying, stop complaining about it
cheers

kooks 17-07-2006, 07:43 AM Just turn the phone off...problem solved!
Mistoffelees 17-07-2006, 10:21 AM If you use Taskman you can see this application called blinkingled
in the Applications list.
Maybe if you try to terminate that your LED stops blinking.
I'd rather not try it out myself, have no experience with stopping
system processes in SymbianOS but it sounds kinda logical.

Hehe, I am tempted to have a go because I like to play, but I dont have an issue with it so I think I will just leave it for somebody else to try...just in case :).
cah1982 17-07-2006, 10:49 AM it can be anoying i mean in my far room i have a netgear router with flashing leds , but thats quite sothing as at least one led is always on. but my scart switch had a ultra bright led whoch did my nut in so i took the thing apart, and reangled the leds downwards , so now its just a soothing blue .
the thing i find most annoying with this fone at night is if u have the fone on charge , u can be laid in bed seeing the blue flash, but then the screen turns on when the charge is complete so i think ive got a text or somet.

I dont see the blue flash when my phone is on charge, with the charger pluged in the phone doesn't go into sleep mode, and therefore the blue light doesn't come on, and also I get a message tone when I have a txt message come through, plus I am usually alseep when the phone finishes its charge
Maybe is because of firmware that your light still flashes, maybe network specific, I have the generic firmware in my phone.
yup, the led doesnt flash when its on charge, but ist just a blue led come on u can put something over it and u wont see it at nights, and if u dont wanna see it animore on nights just leave ur phone charging all night and there wont be any flashing led that could make u go blind
knuckleskin 17-07-2006, 06:02 PM If in taskman there is a program called blinkingled, i bet it wouldnt be hard for someone to create software to change it to stop blinking.
anyways its just a led not a starwars saberlaser so i dont see the problem of it
misleading 20-07-2006, 05:15 PM if you hate the blue LED that much take the front fascia off and put a piece of black electrical tape over the hole in the metal plate that it shines through - problem solved. otherwise turn your phone upside down at night, switch it off or alternatively just get over it - once you put yourself into sleep mode you won't notice it anyway!!! :)
Stick your socks over it :o
lopes 20-07-2006, 10:41 PM I just leave mine with the screen facing the table, that way i don't see the flashing blue light when i'm on my bed.
tomnufc 21-07-2006, 02:22 PM Lol I really can't see what all the fuss is about this LED
Like most people I just leave my phone charging overnight and by the time it's full I'm asleep anyway so I don't notice the screen light up.
I think Nokia should make more use of the LED to be honest, maybe have it on when a Bluetooth connection is established, that would be cool
knuckleskin 21-07-2006, 02:35 PM I agree tomnufc if someone developed a replacement program you could get it, for example, to flash more frequently when you have a text message or missed call. And to not flash at all if a certain profile is activated, unfortunatly i'm not prepared to learn Java EE this summer.

Yeah I think a good one would be for it to be off all the time and then come on when you have a missed call or text msg. I personally never use sleep mode so at the moment it's not doing anything.

My last phone (Windows Mobile 5 :frown:) had 2 multi-coloured leds, 1 for battery related and network signal information, the other for information re WiFi, Bluetooth, messages etc. I found them really handy but I doubt if the people who are unhappy with the N80 led flashing at night would be thrilled :D

I tried this but the Taskman tool does not terminate the application .. so nothing there ...

but it will drain the battery :(
x-daemon 20-12-2006, 07:11 AM just turn your n80's face down. so, you won't be seeing the blue light.

Not seeing the blue light doesn't stop it flashing and draining the battery...
sparky11 30-07-2008, 01:19 AM Hi, I'm not sure if my phones the same as you guys but mine did that annoying flashing blue light thing on sleep mode as well until:
I went to profiles, personalise, light indicator.... and switched off.
:)

That's what I always do, or i'll put it under my pillow(That's really bad for our health).
Maybe the blue light is designed for the ppl who look for his phone at night lol.
