I just bought a Kingston 1gb memory card (off ebay) for my N70. I've been having some problems whilst recording video with it. Although the audio works fine, the visuals get a but jumpy and can start and stop alot. Also, the image shown on the screen whilst recording is very jumpy indeed. Any tips that anyone can offer?

I think your best option is to put the Kingston card back on ebay and get yourself another brand of card.

Sorry.

Thanks very much.

Is there a brand that you can recommend?

Hang on a second...are you sure you've set it to use the Memory Card rather than phone?

Also, is it an Orange phone, and do your videos open up in pvPlayer? Try opening your clips in RealPlayer, should be fine.

Finally, reformat your memory card with your N70 and try again.

I have a Kingston 1GB card and works perfectly. I formatted it and use most of the time a card reader.

Thank you VERY much indeed.

It isn't an Orange phone (I've heard about how they don't work well with the N70) and the film definitely wasn't going to the phone memory. The clips were playing in Real Player and it was all messed-up.

However, I've just formated the memory card as suggested and it's all working pefectly now. The screen image is smooth whilst filming and the final footage is too.

Thank you again, you've all saved me a fair bit of hassle.

The reason I got myself a 1gb card in the first place is 'cause I frequently use the phone to film bands playing live and the standard 64meg card isn't enough. Have a look at some of the (pretty good, if I can say so myself!) clips that I've had at

and

and this one isn't a band but it is funny

Thank you all.

Very well put...as Kingston are known to be slow.

ATP makes the fastest 1gb rs-mmc period, like SP said do some research before buying. The ATP costs more but is totally worth the extra dough.

thanks guys - was havin the same problem myself (non-kingston card as well!) and fromatting solved the problem. Any ideas as to why this works though ? i was thinking maybe it stops the card becoming defragmented but am hoping not as i cant be bothered with formatting and re-installing all software once or twice a month once the card gets fragmented again :-(

A symptom of a card with slow transfer rates. Kingston is not the only card with slow transfer rates.

if its a slow transfer rate that causes the problem why does formatting the card fix the problem though ?!

Fragmentation is reduced, thus less searching and transfer(read/write) between card and OS. This has been discussed and proven on many s60 forums and threads.

This is going to sound stupid but what is "formatting" the memory card and how do you do it because I bought a Kingston 1gb card off ebay and my videos suck?

Menu / Tools / Memory / Options / Format mem. card.

It wipes everything that is on the card and gives it a good clean-up. Worked a treat on mine when I was having bother with a Kingston 1gb card.
