A friend has recently got a lovely lovely n70 (aahhh nice we all say) but the prob is that he has an annoying side bar which we cannot get rid of, it is light in colour and down the left hand side of the screen while phone is in standby mode !! frustrating to say the least does anyone know how to get rid of it???? thx in advance.

Got it off Orange I'm guessing, that's their homescreen. Love it or loathe it you can't get rid off it unless you get the phone reflashed to Nokia's latest generic firmware or tell Orange to stick it where the sun don't shine and get a phone off somebody that doesn't quite stuff the phone up (like o2).

So, take it either to a Nokia Service Centre or your nearest Carphone Warehouse - they should flash it with the latest firmware. Annoying yes, but surely less hassle than returning the phone. It should be free and doesn't take long.

thx guys sounds good, just rang a third party nokia recognised shop in my area they said they could do a generic flash for approx £15- and will do it while i wait too how cool is that?
now does a generic flash mean the phone will be totally back to production specs and all blocked functions open??

Yes - but remember, because you're flashing to generic firmware all default Orange settings will be wiped. You'll need to configure settings such as access points manually, or if you can, get Orange to send the settings to you.

It should be free, afterall why should you pay £15 to put your phone back to the way it was intended to be?
