View Full Version : Wanted - TV control program
Markb 18-11-2002, 04:59 PM Has anyone seen a TV remote controller program for the 7650.
As it has infrared it should logically be able to do the trick.......
anyone................
J2theIZZO 18-11-2002, 05:10 PM This is a much wanted app, but someone is yet to create it.
Also maybe due to the range of the IR on the 7650...??
thegrey 18-11-2002, 05:24 PM But still..should be able to reach..what 2 meters? that should be enough.... :D
tvoung 18-11-2002, 05:31 PM lol that is seriously lazy!
When do TV's with bluetooth remotes start coming out?
J2theIZZO 18-11-2002, 05:37 PM I don't think it would be too hard to make, all you need is something that will read the existing IR data from a TV remote and save it somewhere and reproduce it when you press the assigned button.
But of a long winded process though, as it would be like a "learning" process, and everytime you wanted to use it for a different TV, you would have to programme the remote into your 7650.
Pointless anyway, why don't you use the existing remote you get with your TV?, or where you having different ideas? ;)
omar_g 18-11-2002, 05:40 PM When do TV's with bluetooth remotes start coming out?
Sony has a memorystick television on sale across Europe, and there is a bluetooth memory stick planned for the not too distant future. Hmmm....
Maybe?!
SMS composition on your tv via your 7650. Tasty. :D
wannyondeathrow 18-11-2002, 07:34 PM A remote control app that already has the preset infrared channels for the widest range of infrared compatible equipment. Also a copy function where the infrared(N7650) reads and stores codes from other devices,eg. Remote locking mechanism on cars. Mmmmmm.
I tried this with my bros casio t.tv. watch and programmed my remote lockin on my pug 206 and it works. :D
tvoung 18-11-2002, 07:47 PM lol not the remote locking on cars myth again.
If you making a car would you use IR to unlock or a secure radio frequency?
JyriK 18-11-2002, 07:48 PM or some external file for commands so you can save & load from internet
ready settings for different remotes :D
from AAS for example :D
now someone quicly programming it.
Darkst0rm 18-11-2002, 10:32 PM I knew someone who had a psion palm that was programmed to turn on the tv , switch on the satellite to a xxx channel and dim the lights all via infra red.. impressive ! weird but true !!
Markb 19-11-2002, 09:21 AM Yep, I've seen the same but what about for the 7650?
Are there any other Symbian devices that can do it?
Mental Blank 19-11-2002, 10:21 AM Due to the type of the IR transceiver used on the 7650, I believe it's not possible to turn it into an IR remote. Palms (and some other devices) have dual mode transceivers which are compatible with standard consumer devices like TVs, whereas the 7650 only supports IrDA. Also, the transceiver's power is so low that you would have to sit about a metre away from the TV to be able to use it!
Manners8 19-11-2002, 02:42 PM You won't be able to use the Nokia 7650 for a tv remote. I know, its a bummer. Since the nokia works on a different frequency to tv remotes we won't be controlling our tv's for some time in the future, perhaps with a bluetooth as mentioned by others.
Also in the Mobile phone catalouges is states that the bluetooth on the nokia 7650 is data only what does this mean since none of the other bluetooth handsets are data only.

This means you can not use a Bluetooth Headset!!!

i had a PDA with this app which uses the same sort of IR that 7650 uses. the app allowed you to point the actual tv remote at the ir of the PDA, and when u press the button on the remote the Program would learn the frequency of the remote. the only problem was the IR signal sent from the PDA wasnt strong enough, it works but only when you stand right in front of the TV, i believe this is the same prob with the 7650, the way the software devlopers fixed this problem was to create a IR booster device. this plugs onto the top of the current IR port and it is able to amplify the signal sent out. it works quite well with this and you are able to program just about any remote in your house into this software ill see if i can find the URL for the app and post it here later if you want to find out more....
cheers
Markb 20-11-2002, 01:10 PM If you can supply a link i'll give it a go!
Cheers

ITs Good to have a Tv Renote in 7650 !!!
janafunk 21-11-2002, 11:37 AM So has any one tried this imniremote software and has it worked????

I'll think you'll find this is for the PalmOS rather than the Symbian on the 7650, Good program to have though if you have a palm!

Correct me if I am wrong! but if you can sync/pass info to a PDA, say a palmOs device by IR, and you can get a program for palmOS that can do the TV thing, then that would suggest the 7650 has compatoble IR with a TV!!!!!!! Or can someone give me a lecture of frequencies?
Cheers

MaleBuffy 28-11-2002, 01:20 PM It has nothing to do with frequencies........as far as I know the only problem is the reception distance...it is said that the 7650 has not enough power to send the IR beam more than 2-3 meters.....I told you how to try it but nobody actually did...I cannot try the distance beacause I havent got a IR dongle! If someone uses IR he can PM me to tell him what to do to check it out!
JyriK 28-11-2002, 02:06 PM I have tested it and can say that the max range is about 3 metres.
2 metres reliably, with data moving from 7650 to pc.
3 metres with quite a lossy connection, but it might work with IR to TV
as the data to be transmitted would be really small amount.
MaleBuffy 28-11-2002, 02:11 PM how did you test it?
Markb 28-11-2002, 02:14 PM I suppose he moved further away from the IR until is failed!!!!!
as far as I know the only problem is the reception distance...it is said that the 7650 has not enough power to send the IR beam more than 2-3 meters
enough for me as I constantly lose the TV remote and can not do the wizzy things my TV should do without it!!
.....I told you how to try it but nobody actually did
Please let me have the link!
So it would seem the 7650 should be physically be able to do it but what about the software!!!!!
JyriK 28-11-2002, 02:18 PM just connected with 7650 (acting as modem) IR to PC.
and moved the 7650 farther away from IR receiver until it disconnected. (3m)
and then backed up till it was reliable and fast (2m).
MaxiMuS 28-11-2002, 02:19 PM does it work? i supposed palm softwares aren't compatibles with 7650?? :D
Mental Blank 28-11-2002, 04:13 PM To re-iterate once more, it's nothing to do with range, the Palm uses a completely different type of infra-red transceiver to the 7650. The Palm's transceiver is able to operate in two modes: the one that TVs etc. use, and the one used for IrDA. The 7650's only works for IrDA.
As far as I know, it's impossible to write a program for the 7650 to control a TV. I would be very impressed if anyone achieves this.
JyriK 28-11-2002, 04:29 PM Ok, thats that then. :( ...but still hoping impossibilities :)
jackhead_3 10-05-2005, 03:01 PM how to install tv remote control to N7650?
lee-meere 24-05-2005, 11:07 AM how to install tv remote control to N7650?
The nokia 7650 WILL work as a tv remote. Have a look at http://www.psiloc.com/index.html?action=ShowArticleItem&ida=152
I have tested it on my Phillips TV, DVD and LG video. It works upto about 1.5 metres.
