any ideas how i can do that

its so i can run irc in the house, maybe surf the net when im taking a shit in the toilet?!?!??!

Use your imagination !

come on

22 views and no-one knows?

do u think a small network app may ned to be coded for the phone to allow this?

17-11-2002, 11:35 PM
It's very easy!

Tools, Settings, Connection, Access Points, Options, New Access Point, Use default settings.

Connection name: Bluetooth DSL
Date bearer: GPRS
Access pont name: none
User name: None
Prompt password: No
Password: None (default)
Authentication: Secure
Gateway IP address: 0.0.0.0

Save this and connect your 7650 to the Bluetooth COM-Port.
The mRouter Tray-Icon should show now that the device is successfully connected.

Next open the program of your choice (Wireless IRC) an select "Bluetooth DSL" as default connection - that's it!

It works with nearly all programs except the default browser.

hmmm

i get an error message

GPRS: GPRS not available. Check network services

and my serial port bluetooth connection is definitely acitve

Hello!! This is my very first post! :D

Just thought I would reply to this topic as I used the method as detailed in this topic without any problems. I am now able to use webviewer on my phone to surf the net with my ADSL connection. No problems at all. Although i haven't tried using "wirelessIRC" yet.

I can't get webviewer to work through bluetooth, but can get email to work. With Wireless IRC, just set the default access point to "none", then it works a treat.

IM+ will try to work through IrDa or Bluetooth before it asks you to select and access point.

Webviewer *tries* to work, but seems to time out. The mRouter Icon flashes, so it seems to be getting data, but nothing comes back.

Any hints?

cheers

Andy.

Well, you are going to have hard time making every app for the 7650 to work, its a miracle that you got this far because you should not have.
Why? I've read somewhere that internet sharing was supported only one way with the 7650,it can serve internet (GPRS,GSM Data etc etc) but it cannot participate as a client, you guys did it,we should put this in the faq.

aye

the guy in forum nokia told me this was impossible as well

i got wireless irc to work fine, again, select access point as "none"

also got webviewer working, pain in the neck though as you have to select your access point every time you load a page. still good though

hell....who am i kidding, i woke up in th middle of the night, grabbed my phone and checked the net to see the scotland score. this net sharing over bluetooth is so sweet

PS portugal beat us 2 - 0, but we only had half a team

Sanjay, it wasn't rude.

The first time you posted in this thread, you simply made a statement. You didn't ask for help or advice. The second time you posted, you asked a question. - Which I did understand, and to which I gave an answer. I didn't see the point in running over the details that had already been posted in the thread, replacing one method of connecting to the internet with another.

Maybe you should try to understand the answers first! ;)

(and that wasn't rude either, it was a joke)

I hope that you've managed to get it all working.

Re: OPlayer and Real Player...

Thanks Andy, let me know if it works.

Bad news I'm afraid. I can't get either to work.

Real sets "none" as its access point when it is installed, If you try and connect to a URL while its still set like that, it makes you select a proper access point. I choose my "bluetooth" AP, the [G] flashes for a second, and then Real player tells me that its not a valid GPRS connection, and suggests that I contact my network to get GPRS setup. mRouter doesnt flash at all :(

Oplayer does pretty much the same thing. It makes me select an Access Point. I chose "bluetooth", the [G] flashes, and then Oplayer says "The selected Internet access point is invalid. Please go to settings and choose another Access Point". mRouter doesn't flash at all. :(

These are only my thoughts..
I dont want to be too judgemental here. Afterall, its personal tastes/ Preferences/ Needs/ Necessities..but..

I just read about Windowblinds, and i saw lot many other ppl seem to be having similar problems of crashing with that software. I'm sure you are going to be using a BT lot now...( I know u were using Infra erlier..but BT is irresistible ..u always want to fiddle with it..because of the sheer ease of use and and also new applications coming out for the phone, and just TRYING the BT out )

If i were you, i would'nt have compromised easy BT usage, constant crashing of system with a SW like blin.... just for cosmetic reasons, and the slight improvement in UI.

Consider unistalling it.
But ultimately..its your choice!!

Hi Raven,

Go to...

Tools - Settings - Connection - GPRS - GPRS Connection
change to "Only when needed"

You'll see the G flash a bit, then disappear. The GPRS connection is not maintained. but the mRouter should flash and data will flow through that route.

You will not see mRouter icon on phone. When u try to connect to net via Bluetooth, normal GPRS "G" flashes for a while, and then disappears. That location ( GPRS icon ) should be blank if it is connecting thru bluetooth. If u find [G], may be its connecting thru GPRS.

Okey dokey. I reckon that I might have had to re-boot the phone after I told it to connect "when needed". After that, when using webview I have to choose my "bluetooth" access point, the G appears, and flashes a bit, then disappears, and then the mrouter icon flashes (on the PC).

You don't get an mRouter icon on the phone, only on the PC. When mRouter is transfering data, you should see the mrouter tray icon turn into a little phone/computer and flash a bit.

My GPRS counter (in the logs section) hasnt increased since I've started to use the BlueTooth access point. So I'm guessing that I'm not incurring any charges. Still, I haven't had a bill come through yet!

Cheers

No, I reckon that its webviewer using the wrong AP, rather than your BT setup.

here's a thought. Go to :
Tools - settings - Apps
Highlight webviewer, hit Options -> Settings -> Default Access Point.
Set it to Bluetooth.
Then
Highlight webviewer, hit Options -> Settings -> Settings
Set those options to "bluetooth" and Network Connection "ask first"

Did u try to get the "Accept Other" thing? This may need new software and or change registry values.
Check this http://allaboutsymbian.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=3075

I think its imperative to be able to effect all modes of data transfer for this to work

Morning Raven,

Did you manage to get any further with it last night?

If not, there are a couple of things you can do with your bluetooth setup.
I'm guessing that your dongle came with either the Widcomm software, or the Blue Manager software. If you have one of these, they seem to be interchangeable. The latest versions of them are here:

widcomm:
http://www.tecomproduct.com/asp/support.asp?Navi=SoftwareDownload
take the BTW12216.ZIP file

XTNDConnect Blue Manager:
http://www.itgs.co.uk/acatalog/index.html?http%3A//www.itgs.co.uk/acatalog/Support.html&CatalogBody
Take Blue Manager v2.0

Before you update your bluetooth stack, I would remove PC suite. There is also a newer version of PC suite availble for download at the nokia site.

The Blue Manager software came with my dongle, I found it very unstable on winXP (it was fine on Win2K). It would crash, and then I would only be able to start it again after a reboot. I switched over to the widcomm stack, and have had no problems since.

I couldnt get PC suite to work with SP1 installed, but since I removed it, everything has worked fine.

If you have the widcomm stack, and cant send images from the phone to the PC, you need to change (or add) this key to the registry:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Widcomm\BTConfig\Servic es\0004\AcceptOther
set its value to 0x0000001

Hopefully something in there will get bluetooth running for you.

Goodluck

Andy

Hi Andy. I wanna thank you very much for your advices.
I changed the software to Tecom last night, and I've done the AcceptOther thing. I have a Billionton bluetooth USB adapter, btw. The only thing from your suggestions I haven't tried is uninstalling-installing PC-suite... Maybe I should?

Well, here is the situation; PC-suite works fine and I can send from phone, BUT I cannot send from windows it wont find my phone. And during pairing I got alot of errors (still get errors like BTtray closes from the taskbar and the startup error: unable to start the bluetooth stack service). So you can say that PC-suite works fine, windows don't.

But my main complaint is that I still cannot get this blutooth DSL connection thing working. Still connects tto GPRS....???

Any more suggestions please......?
Thanks a mill

Every time I try to create a new access point and select data bearer to GPRS and Gateway IP address to 0.0.0.0, the 7650 recognizes it as the GPRS INTERNET settings provided by my operator!!!
And my phone isn't locked or anything...

Maybe a master reset is the only way to fix this problem?????

Or does anyone know of another Gateway IP address this bluetooth connection would work with??

Please help ppl, this is driving me crazy!!!!!

Thanks.

Hi Raven,

You are having a nightmare.

I think there are two issues here.
1. Not being able to send images etc to phone from pc
2. being unable to setup a dummy GPRS access point.

For 1, how are you trying to send? right click send-to -> Bluetooth ->Other device -> search -> no device found? That is what happens to me.

Try this: My Bluetooth Places -> Entire Bluetooth Neighborhood -> Your Phone (hopefully it is paired) -> Inbox
you should see a business card in there. Now, just drag and drop the file that you want to send to your phone, into the inbox folder.

For 2, (i've just spotted your post on GPRS gateway) I would try changing the gateway to an invalid IP address on your operators network. Try setting it to 127.0.0.1 or 192.168.0.1, that may make the gprs connection fail (which is what we want)

Remember to have the GPRS setting so that it only connects "When Needed" , that way you should see the G flash a bit, and then disappear.

Good luck mate!

Andy

Hi Andy,

I've sorted out #1 when I got rid of the Widcom software and installed Blue manager 2.0.

#2 is still a problem. My phone won't accept a dummy access point!!?? I've tried changing my IP to what you suggested, but the WebViewer closes right after I've selected access point and I get an error.

I'm about to give up on this thing now, but maybe I'll try a master reset first...? Do you think that would let me have a dummy access point???

Hi,

Well, I'm certainly running out of ideas. I guess a reset is worth a try. Once you've done it, just setup your dummy access point, and install webviewer. Then, I guess we'll find out.

By the way, is it just webviewer that is a problem? can you use wirelessIRC (set access point to "none") or IM+ through bluetooth?

A.

A good news: the bluetooth connection with PC suite...
WORK ALSO FOR P800!!!
Yes, you can connect the P800 to mRouter, and use it to surf the net, to connect with your preferred instant messaging (TipicME of course ;-)), etc.

If you're using the trick with blank GPRS settings to connect to share a broadband connection over mrouter, you must go into Connect and activate your connection to mrouter by clicking bluetooth or infrared, just as you do when you want to sync with pc suite.

You can access and read hotmail on wap at http://mobile.msn.com
You will however not be able to download attachments. Hotmail on webviewer is not possible. Also, Hotmail does not support Pop

I think for those for whom the blank APN name in the Access point configuration doesn't work it might be the operator's setup.

I find on Vodafone NZ that if I don't specify an APN name it just seems to connect me anyway to their default non-wap Internet one. Unfortunately this stops me utilising the "go through bluetooth if no APN trick".

I'm pretty certain this is the cause of failure because one day when GPRS was down I was able to get it to bind to the bluetooth thing and use it that way. Damn shame really.

UPDATE I GOT IT TO WORK: I've had exactly the same problem as several in this forum where it will connect to GPRS even if the APN is left blank. What I just did was update my Bluetooth Access Point configuration to use a made up APN name like "ahjdjkewr". Damn me if it didn't just flash then webviewer started just fine through my bluetooth connection

Obviously blank name equals "OK use default" but junk name is rejected. Sweet.

HI! all...

i am very worry about all of you guys...

i don't know why it's so hard for you to use the Bluetooth right...

in every aspect...

i configured and make it all that 7650 can do with Bluetooth my very
first time i buy it and installed... no problem at all...

My be i was just lucky guy ... :D

Anyway... i found an important thing about the ACCESS POINT...

My operator don't have Internet Access Point yet... but...

To make an INTERNET ACCESS POINT thru the PC connection to internet, the real default point that everybody mention on this forum is not right!...

Simply puting a name like "bluetooth DSL" to one access point you are doing nothing... that not make any diference to the 7650, that don't tell nothing about to connect to PC ...

The real way to tell what ACCESS POINT the 7650 you want to use by a default Internet Access Point if the GPRS don't work is here....

SETTINGS / CONNECTION / GPRS / ... Access Point = PC (for example)

That is the real thing that tell to the 7650 that "PC" access point will be used for internet connection when GPRS don't work ... NOT THE NAME of the ACCESS POINT ...

Of course remember to create an access point like with any name (i puted PC), with:

name: any
Data bearer: GPRS
Access Point name: same that above (any)
User name: none
prompt passwd: no
Authentication: Normal
Gateway IP: 0.0.0.0

Well that's it...

By this way i can use Webviewer, send and recieve email, etc.. simply
using my PC conecction for all that apps...

I don't know because i don't have it, but may be if you simply use on webviewer this PC connection, even if you have the GPRS Internet Connection Service, that connection will be passed, and may be 7650 use the PC connection priority.

Just try...

Hope this help all you guys..

I am happy with my 7650, with my perfect bluetooth connection and
everything else that concern to my 7650 feactures, that's why i don't understand and i am worry about why there are many customers talking bad thing about 7650.

Remember the first rule of computers makers...
"if something goes wrong or don't work like you want, human error (user)is the answer most of the times" (almost %90)...

Simply it's a very new tecnology, but we need to learn the basics to use it before start to talking bad thing about products.

cya all! :D

Do you know the proxy ip adress? Try seting the proxy ip adress as Gatway on the phone or set the ip adress of your PC as gateway on the phone.

I really cant think of too that resolves names in windows but regular ping should do,just ping the proxy.
Another silly idea,if the previus mentioned does not work try seting up some simple firewall that will forward all packets sent to your PC to the proxy,it is a security risk but it might work.
One more thing,do you have Gateway ip adress assigned on your PC?

Urpo

Honestly I have no idea how to make "simply firewall"??

Yes they're different... THANKS to you. I appreciate your help HIGHLY! Tough the problem didn't solve..

I was playing with the bluetooth drivers because i was unable to send files from phone to PC (the registry fix does not work because there is no AcceptOther key, creating manually does not work),so i downloaded the latest bluetoot drivers from MSI (1.2.2.15) and the connection sharing does not work with them,at least for me but it does work with the original cd drivers (1.2.2.4)
Proxy seting might not be a reason for your problem.
What version of the drivers are you using?

Urpo
24-01-2003, 11:41 AM
I have 1.2.something. Regfix worked on me. Everything works between 7650 <-> PC, but not using PC's internet connection with phone.

I have tested it. Every program which dont have "use proxy"-settings will not able to connect to the net. Actually I only can surf in the net.
For example if I try use some program and I'm not typed proxy into the settings -> it will not connect. And if I put proxy it will.

Ok, I've got it working

So you don't need GPRS

The trick is to enter the same name for Access point name in GPRS connection as the name of your computer connection in BT - Paired devices. That is in Tools - Connection Settings - GPRS and in the Access point you define. It didn't work for a setting of none for me.

Nokia 3650 (like 7650)

AT & T Wireless

Mac OS X 10.2.6

Error GPRS access point not valid...

Some applications see the new access point in menus, but many applications do not. Is this AT&T system or software preventing use of other networks?

How must the computer be configured for bluetooth internet access?

I think the phone was configured correctly for sure(?).
but maybe something missing on the computer side.

Even if you have Windows, if you give general internet instructions for requirements, I can make the settings on the Mac.

Your problem is the MAC OS X,i don't think there is an mrouter like app for OS X.

07-07-2003, 09:06 PM
No mRouter

There is a Bluetooth serial utility

Incoming and outgoing bluetooth connections can be created.

Modem or RS-232 ports are created.

The incoming connection is generalized, the outgoing connection must be specified from this list:
Fax
Bluetooth Seiral Port
OBEX Object Push
Dial-up Networking
Handsfree Audio Gateway
OBEX File Transfer

I tried:

Outgoing: RS-232/Bluetooth Serial Port plus Incoming RS-232

and

Outgoing: RS-232/Dial-up Networking plus Incoming RS-232

without success

MRouter, you say...

It is possible using Mac OS 9 and Virtual PC, running Windows on Mac...

GhostDog
07-07-2003, 09:24 PM
Yes,mRouter. It is the app that makes internet sharing between the phone and the PC possible.Wont work without it.Using some Virtual PC app might do the trick,i'm not really familiar with OS X but when i needed some Windows feature under Linux,VMware and Win4Lin worked great.

Ok I am running a widcomm 1.2.2.16 stack from widcomm and the dongle is a BT3030 one, I have done all the tweaks that get the 7650 to access a a web site that is on my pc and it works fine except for some lil things Im bothered with :

I have this dummy GPRS access and the correct port ticked in mRouter but my problem is that for the phone to access the net, I need to first establish the serial connection from within the widcomm bluetooth interface, I click on the nokia's serial port and then connect it and the phone asks if I wanna accept the conn, then only after that does mrouter's icon change.

What I would like to do is to be able to estabkish the connection from the phone, that is to say, each time the web browser needs to make an access, the serial link is establishedk, how come I need to activate it from the PC first ??

thx in advance.

At least, it is if you have iSync installed, and if you have a Bluetooth phone, you probably do. Here's the path:

/System/Library/SyncServices/SymbianConduit.Bundle/Contents/Resources/mRouter

There are several threads on other forums I've been following, but so far mRouter seems to be a bust on the Mac. I can connect via straight IP addressing, but DNS names don't resolve. Here are a few other threads:

http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20030616191119129

http://discussions.info.apple.com/WebX?128@32.fWEhamLwdSl.0@.3bbfa8fe

http://www.technohappymeal.com/archives/000070.html

As near as I can tell, mRouter isn't passing DNS queries up the line, though I could actually be wrong about that. My packet sniffing abilities are a bit limited...

That last link there does list an alternate to mRouter, but so far I have the same issue with DNS as mRouter. Talk about frustrating... I'm about ready to offer my old iMac to anyone that can give me a solution that I can make work under OS X. ;)
