Is it possible to hide or close the Desk?

One of the things I like about my friend's S60-based 6260 is that when nothing is open, he can have a simple pic and clock appearing on the screen. With my S90-based 7710, the Desk doesn't seem to go away. I'd like to just have a background pic, maybe the clock, maybe the Desk quick-access icons (the 5 or 6 that are at the bottom of the Desk), and nothing else. I'd then tap or press a button to open the Desk and do what I want, rather than always having to have it open all the time.

Hi, I have been looking to do this aswell, the closest that I have found is if you Click "Desk All", goto Group and Make a new group called Blank, then you can click Desk All again, Click View Group and select the Blank group. You can set a background image for this then.

There is only one problem and that is in the top left hand corner it has a message stating that there are no applications or shortcuts on this page. But I suppose you could get around this if you chose a wallpaper image with a black background in the top left.
