This month i am doing my gcse's at school, they said that they had a device in each exam area that could turn all mobiles off. Is there such device that could turn your phone off or stop you getting a signal? Would it illegal aswell because it might have to hack into your phone or something, please post some info.

The phones lock to the base station with the strongest signal that the phone can detect.

A device that purports to be a real base station, but really isn't (is not connected to an actual network), could "capture" all phones within range that think it is the strongest one.

No phone hacking needed.

I'd be suprised if a school had one of those, but you never know. Its certainly theoretically possible though I was under the impression such devices were illegal in the UK (not 100% sure on that though, but the UK had quite strict control over radio emissions).

More to the point is why you would want to have your phone working during an exam. I think maybe you should concentrate on the exam itself! And if you're thinking about using your phone as a study aid...

yes it is, my friend has one in the shape of the old ericsson phones , has two antennas though, kills any signal within 100 meters. the school would probably have something on a bigger scale, i go to school near an american consulate and they have that too.

thanks for the quick reply, just wondered if it was possible. I think ill check to see if its legal or not. Would it affect all types of network like 3g, 2g, gprs.
