Hello!

I am just new here, so bare with me...

I am about to buy an SC/MMC Reader for my N6600's MMC. My understanding of MMCs are not yet that big, so I would like to ask a thing...

Based from what I've read elsewhere, MMCs use FAT16 so they could be read by the phone. If I plug my MMC into a reader, and plug it in to the USB port, would I be able to read the contents of my MMC just like a flash disk in My COmputer, or do I need a special software to read it?

Next, I am thinking about the idea that I could buy an extra 512MB MMC, so that I could use my empty SD/MMC Reader (the other MMC being inserted to my phone) as a flash disk. If I would format the extra 512MB MMC in FAT32, would I be able to use that MMC (inserted to the reader) as a normal Flash Disk? What I wanted if possible, is that a single SD/MMC Reader would become a two-in-one tool for me; containing the formatted 512MB MMC in FAT32 as a flash disk, then it would serve to also read my phone's MMC (in FAT16) if I need to upload some files into my phone.

I would like to ask everyone there reading this post if that idea is possible...

Thank you all for your enlightenment.

With an USB memory card reader, you will be able to read/write the MMC on your PC without any special software (unless you run a very old version of Windows, for example).

I think the largest full-size MMC cards are 2GB (at least 1GB is available from many manufacturers).

Ok, that answered part 1 of My inquiry.

If I buy a, lets say 512MB MMC, and i insert it in my reader, then plug the reader in my usb port, and format it in FAT32, would I be able to use it as a flash disk?

Ok, so I would be able to use it as a flash disk...

So I am planning to buy a 256MB MMC for my phone, and a 512MB MMC as a flash disk.

I need to clarify one more thing...

What driver would I use if I am to use the 512MB MMC flash disk on Win98?

u would probably use the drivers that came with the reader

Anyway, thanks for the insight.

It sure would work won't it? Because I'm afraid I might waste my money trying this...

Anyway, has anybody tried that out yet?

You shouldn't need any extra drivers for the reader/card, if you do then they come with a disc anyway, but I never needed them. All that happens is the card is detected as a removable drive and shows up in your drive listing. As for formatting I don't think they use windoze FAT format, but use a specific format for MMCs.
