So long as there's a 900, 1800 or 1900 MHz GSM network in China, who Voda UK have a roaming agreement with, then YES, the phone should work.

Otherwise, it won't be able to play. (different frequencies / technogolies / no roaming agreements)

But do you know which of them they use in China? I'd like to take my X to HK if possible. (Especially because of the flight part which takes about 12 hours...)

Check out this website and click on the country, then network info for details on frequencies for each network:

Remember the X doesn't have a flight mode, so can't be used on an aeroplane :(

???You mean it didn't come preinstalled with flightmode, but as I remember, psiloc system tools can turn the gsm part of the X off making it possible to listen to mp3's during flight.

Ah, yes. The psiloc application can do it, although I don't know if most airlines will accept this method.

What I meant was that it us not a built-in function of the phone. (it was thought about, but dropped long before release)

I see, too bad I think. If you look at the new w800 it could've been a real competitor...maybe the X3...?

The feature might appear in X2 - as I understand it, it can all be implemented purely in software (well, it would have to be for Psiloc's app. to work), so it is possible Sendo might add it back in for X2.

How would the filght attendants kown that your phone has a flight mode and that you have effectively switched your phone in the flight mode? Are the airlines going to teach their staff how to use each and every mobile phone on the market and have them check every mobile on board before taking off? I wonder how this could be done...

That argument is essentially why Sendo dropped the feature from the X in the first place (if you play the Lowtek Sounds X demo, flight mode is mentioned).

I think it's something which is going to become more common over time. Motorola are already doing it in some of their handsets, and I hear Siemens have it planned too... Once we're all alowed to make phone calls on planes anyway, it won't matter anymore. (it has been tested, remember)
