I guess your looking for a Firmwareupdate via Smartcard. I did this as well and it worked out great (German Version). Unfortunately this is not available for the public...

Hi, so you say that the Symbian OS is a part of the firmware? Some source told me that the phone had a firmware, but the OS is missing. He told me the way how to put the OS into the phone (It is loaded from MMC card and it should be a text file.
Do you have the firmware (even german)? Could you please give me a link or send it to me? Thx.

I heard that the FW cannot be downloaded free, even Sendo X itself is shortly on the market (since the end of 2004).
It is not sold here, only manufactured.

I have downloaded the update. What are the next steps? Somebody told me that e.g. Siemens SX1 would switch to the service mode first and then the update would run. It is different from common mobile phones. How is it with Sendo X?

BTW, is the Tx signal in the USB connector closer to GND or VCC pin (pin 2 or 3)?

Err... if you had read the instructions on the link given (repeated below), you would have seen VERY CLEAR and DETAILED instructions on how to do the upgrade.

In summary:

MAKE SURE THE BATTERY IS FULLY CHARGED
Download the pack and run the exe to extract it
Power on the phone with the star ( * ) key pressed
Go to the update folder on the PC (where the files extracted to) and run the program to start the update.

It is quite easy, as long as you have downloaded the correct pack, based on the code on the label under the battery. Lots of people have done it OK.

There is no firmware (only hardware) in my phone - question: Will the instructions mentioned above work in this case too?


I use an original USB data cable for Siemens with the home-made connector for Sendo. I have found connection scheme for similar phone (Siemens SX1) on the Internet => the electronics of the data cable is integrated in the phone and the phone is connected with the USB on PC using wires only. Question: Is the Sendo X constructed the same way?

I buy data cable for Sendo X smartphone. I am from Czech republic and no Sendo products are sold here. I tried internet shops, but they don't deliver to this country and I don't have a credit card.

It is not officially sold here. I have got it from my friend. I am glad for it at least. It is the best smartphone on the world market.

I gave it a try: I connected the phone using the cable from the picture, turned the phone on while holding the (*) key and Windows XP detected an unknown new USB device, but it refused to install the driver from the firmware update folder. A blue screen on the phone display stated that:

Connect to bottom serial port to communicate

I can't see the picture - I can't resolve the domain.

Hi. My home-made data cable is connected to the USB port on the motherboard and the other end of the cable I have customized for the phone. USB pin #4 (GND) is connected to phone pin #2 (GND), USB pin #3 (DATA+) to phone pin #7 and USB pin #2 (DATA-) to phone pin #6. USB pin #1 (VCC +5V) is not used.

After connecting the phone using this cable Windows XP reports a NEW UNKNOWN USB DEVICE, but IMHO it cannot recognize the device header (Sendo X smartphone) and thus no appropriate device drivers cannot be installed.

I think the problem is:
- mobile phones use Tx and Rx against ground for communication and some of them use DTR and RTS;
- SendoX has two more pins (USB_DP and USB_DM), but I don't know their meaning.

Googling for USB_DP and USB_DM it looks like they are the positive and negative USB data lines - I guess USB uses differential encoding to give it noise tolerance.

After thinking about this some more, the pins in your diagram (Rx and Tx) sound more like regular RS232 signal lines, because USB is a bus, and would not have separate Rx and Tx signals. So, my theory (N.B. supposition, not fact) is this:
The Sendo X connector contains pins for RS232 and USB.
Normal data syncing, image uploading etc. needs USB support, for which you need a valid image (a potential Catch 22).
The X also contains a very simple bootstrap/fallback ROM that understands RS232 but not USB, but Sendo don't provide software to use this. This would make sense because USB is much more complicated.
Your phone is so screwed that it has dropped into the fallback ROM, hence the message 'Connect to bottom serial port to communicate'.

In the absence of any better suggestions, I think you have little choice but to return it to Sendo's service department.
