Does anyone have any info on what High Speed GSM (available in the Data Carrier section of Access Points) is, and any info on its availability in the UK and whether it costs extra?

My understanding is that Orange is the only Operator supporting this, but I could be wrong. Zuber 11-10-2002, 07:58 AM Yep, In the UK, only Orange offer it. You get 28.8k download. I've tried it (not with a 7650) and it works well. And now the good news. Usually, calls using it are not included in your inclusive free minutes. They are usually charged at 25p per minute any time. Can make surfig the web a stressfull business if you are footing the bill. Or if the boss likes to keep an eye on the bill for that matter. Zuber 25p!!!! :o :o Vodafone charge 10p for data calls although not as fast. Zuber 11-10-2002, 08:56 AM "Vodafone charge 10p for data calls although not as fast." Orange arn't totally stupid, "Not as fast" data calls are cheaper and can be part of your inclusive minutes. Actually, from what I can make out (and I might be wrong) about this. Vodafone(UK) data calls are 9.6K max. Orange standard data calls can be 14.4K (without paying through the nose). Zuber J2theIZZO 11-10-2002, 09:37 AM Time for a change next month me thinks! ;) Dazler 11-10-2002, 09:45 AM I use Orange in Belgium (At least it used to be Orange, it has changed name's) I use HSCSD + ISDN V.110 get a speed of 38.4k :)))) I pay 0.11€ per minut, that's about 0.0733 GBP per minut J2theIZZO 11-10-2002, 10:27 AM I use Orange in Belgium (At least it used to be Orange, it has changed name's) I use HSCSD + ISDN V.110 get a speed of 38.4k :)))) I pay 0.11€ per minut, that's about 0.0733 GBP per minut I'm paying more for a 9.6k connection  Zuber 11-10-2002, 10:36 AM J2theIZZO, If you are thinking of switching, make sure you have a number you can dial that is included in your free minutes (assuming you have any). The link below gives the rates on some standard Orange Tariffs. http://www.orange.co.uk/talkplans/tplan_cost_other.html If these are correct, then 0870 would be a better option than 0845. Orange Value Promice rates tend to be different. Dazzler, Sounds good, I'm moving to Belgium on the next available flight. That will teach you for braggig about getting such a good deal. Zuber J2theIZZO 11-10-2002, 10:48 AM I am currently using 0845 to dial my ISP. Vodafone used to include it with your minutes but I think there trying to move everyone over to GPRS for data so they make more money  CiaranMcNulty 11-10-2002, 02:48 PM Does anyone have any info on what High Speed GSM (available in the Data Carrier section of Access Points) is, and any info on its availability in the UK and whether it costs extra? As others have said, it's HSCSD, that only Orange offer. It's useful to note that Orange will support 14.4k GSM for the same price as 9.6k. It's acctually cheaper for a faster connection from Orange compared with Vodafone. :D Orange 14.4 (Included in free minutes) :D  Vodafone 9.6 (10p per minute, not included) GhostDog 11-10-2002, 06:20 PM Damn, guys,i live in a country that is not even near the standars of most european countries and i pay 0.11 euros for 9.600 after 8 a clock, before 8 the price is double. My operator is a ripoff |
