wouldn't it be nice if we could play live feed broadcast with this player whatever the cost!!! live cam!!! ;)

Did anyone find more on the video format compression or decompresion as maybe i can make my own little videos.

i have tried with real one but could only manage mp3 but nto mp4.

the hantro has no sound with mp4 coding. so i have made same mp4 clips but they are boring without the sound to go with!

Hello!

The used file format is called MVQ, or Motion Vector Quantisation to be exact. It's highly efficient compression method developed by VTT, a government research lab in Finland.

Meanwhile you can check

http://www.saunalahti.fi/behemoth/permanent.mvp

for more videos.

I can try to set you guys up for some more content later on. The lack of any official videoclips is because Oplayo doesn't have rights to many videos and so far none of the major operators have launched this service.

Hello ppl! I'm new here. Love this forum, find it very informative.

Anyway, the Oplayer is great, but when I play a video OTA it stops several times buffering. So I just wondered if this could be helped by changing the buffersize? Anyone know the best buffersize to use?

Thanks.

Btw, some Metal music videos would be great.... ;)

Cheers.

Magic Marker
25-10-2002, 01:56 PM
I personally use a 500kB buffer and let the streams load it for a while. It's much better to wait at start and view the whole video than to view it in bits so to speak.

Thanks for the reply, Magic. I've downloaded the "die another day" clip and one more which I deleted. And now suddenly when I try to download or play some more files I just get the "File not found or network error message". This is really frustrating. I'm using the same settings as before, and I've tried wapping over GPRS so I know there's nothing wrong with my network.... Anybody know what the problem might be??

Thanks

25-10-2002, 03:31 PM
Sorry to say, Raven, I have no solution for you at this point. Have you tried uninstalling the Oplayer and re-installing it again? Also, you could check your operator's web page if they have changed the GPRS settings. If you need any help with that, just post here.

---

Also, here's the content I promised:

http://koti.mbnet.fi/~syd/lists/index.mvp

I worked hard to get that base done, but it should be easier to update it in the future. I'll probably add some more content next week. Please PM me in case the links don't seem to work... I don't trust my webhost. :x

Then one more thing: I'm looking for news clips (in English) that are frequently updated and not in Realmedia format. Basically I need a direct link so I can set my GetRight to download the newscast videoclip for me. Avi/wmv/mpg/asf/qt/mov/dv will do.

Cheers,

Hello!

I have today updated my playlist, http://koti.mbnet.fi/~syd/lists/index.mvp .

Added couple of new video files and as of today I'm also trying out putting news streams. This means that once per day I'll add Finnish news for streaming. The text file on the playlist will indicate the exact time the news have aired, so you won't end up watching yesterday's news. ;)

On a sidenote, I would use English news video if they were available for me. See my previous post for that request. :)

In the UK our ISP connections are limited to 9.6k only which is too slow for streaming, thou I beleive Orange offers faster.
But I think the software only supports GPRS anyway as when it looks for a connection it only lists my GPRS connections as selectable.

Hmm... that isn't good at all. In due time there should be phones with more memory, but until then streaming is the only feasible solution. From what I've heard the GPRS fees around Europe are still way too high for mass markets.

Perhaps I should drop down the quality on my videos from 40kbps to ~25 so that ppl with slower transfer rate won't have to buffer constantly. :/

Oplayer supports ISP connections too, if you have Orange then your in buisness, sign up for High Speed Data with them 28.8k :D

I'm changing to Orange next week, Vodafone are doing the free MMS thing but i'll still have one contract with them.

Magic, out of interest GPRS is supposed to be a 42k connection, T-Mobile appear to throttle this to 21k !!

I'll have to see about that anyway, one episode is about 21 minutes which is kinda long for a mobile videoclip. Keep those ideas coming! :)

ok guys cause i have nothing better to do i encoded menace II society to .mvq last night. it's at

http://clients.net-performance.co.uk/veh_sec/threesixty/m2s_26.mvq

just did as a test, so if any of you want a look there for the weekend (so i can try and avoid being rumbled for using all the bandwidth), please not too many people.

I didn't maintain aspect ratio cause it was widescreen - the audio's only 6 kbps which explains why its quiet. overall though considering the files only 18meg not bad. need to play around with settings to try and improve the audio.

any suggestions on optimum settings magic marker?

btw, copyright and all that, the file will be gone after the weekend never to reappear and i own it etc and it was meant for personal use until i accidentally posted the url here blah blah blah. if you download delete after 2secs if you don't own the original etc etc.

Well, you can't do anything about the audio since that's the only thing you can have. Video quality I think shouldn't be lower than the 20kbps (20 + 6kbps audio = 26). You can try and filter the original movie audio to remove frequencies that the phone cannot repeat. (<-- complicated & needs special tools)

I've heard through different channels that the next version of Oplayer will be using a different audiocodec, with selectable audio bandwidth so you won't be stuck with the 6kbps in case you want to increase audio quality over the video.

You can get the avi volume higher before encoding with Virtual dub, which is a freeware program and very, very useful tool for recompressing, fixing audio sync and cutting unwanted parts of video clips.

If you can connect to it using a regular web browser (example: IE), it should be reachable.

Common mistake is to have a typo in the URL, so you should doublecheck that it's entered in Oplayer open location exactly the same way.

No, no. You should test the URL with your PC. If you type the address on the web browser address bar, then hit enter, you should get either the playlist source or a message that XML page cannot be viewed.

If either of those 2 messages appear, it means that the playlist is online and can be reached with Oplayer as well. You do not need a specific browser for your phone.

Well, it took me a while but finally I was able to cough up some real cartoon material.

At http://koti.mbnet.fi/~syd/lists/index.mvp you'll find a link to playlist called "Cartoon" and from there... South Park episode, divided into 3 sections.

I'd like to hear comments on file sizes (are they too big/small) and quality of the clips (eg would you want to drop down on quality for smaller file size, or want better quality but larger files).

Personally I think that the quality is good but the files are bit too large, so maybe in future I'll split them into 4 or 5 parts. See the readme file in playlist for exact file sizes and lengths.

Magic Marker

That is problematic. The playlist format is not exactly a secret, but there is no playlist creator available for public use.

What you can do is download some of my playlists, start with the index.mvp and work on that. If you have specific questions just PM me and I'll do my best to help you out.

Here's a short example of playlist:

[code:1]
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE playlist SYSTEM "playlist-1.0.dtd">
<playlist v="1.0">
<pd l="mylist.mvp" b="http://www.geocities.com/myplace/" t="My Videos">
<txt t="Hello">
<msg>This is the welcome note. I hope you enjoy my videos!</msg>
</txt>
<s l="untitled_26.mvqp.7650" t="My First Video" d="true"/>
<pe l="otherfolder/myotherplaylist.mvp" t="My Other Playlist"/>
<s l="http://www.foobar.com/stuff/morestuff/friendsvideo.mvqp.7650" t="My First Video" d="true"/>
</pd>
</playlist>
[/code:1]

In this above case your files should be found from these URLs:

http://www.geocities.com/myplace/mylist.mvp (the above playlist file)
http://www.geocities.com/myplace/untitled_26.mvqp.7650 (the first video)
http://www.geocities.com/myplace/otherfolder/myotherplaylist.mvp (the other playlist)
http://www.foobar.com/stuff/morestuff/friendsvideo.mvqp.7650 (the other video)

s=video, pe=playlist, t=title, d=download, b=base address

This may all be very confusing but if you know how to edit html you'll know how to edit that playlist. ;)

----

Here's a short description of the files you'll get out when you encode with Designer:

untitled_26.mvqp.7650 untitled is the name, 26 is the total bandwidth. the file extension .7650 means that it is a mobile stream for Nokia 7650. I usually rename them to .mvq for shorter path and simplicity.

oplayo30p.jar this is the player for Internet. It's not used with mobile phones.

untitled.html this is the html file which has preformatted code and reference to the Internet player and the stream.

untitled_26.mvqp this is the Internet video file. It is not mobile stream, so you cannot view it with the 7650 player. You can and should view it with the Internet player.

When creating mobile streams you should follow these steps:

- Start program
- Select Create a new mobile presentation
- Click OK
- Drag mouse cursor on the Background bar near the bottom of the screen
- Choose videofile to open
- Set properties and settings. Make sure your video start and endtime are correct. You should make the start time 00:00:00.000
- Click OK
- File -> Publish presentation
- Choose YES/NO depending on if you want to save the presentation template
- Set file output location by clicking on Local PC tickbox
- Set the bandwidth you want to use, then click add
- Choose the options from Settings and then click Publish

Thank you, I will check the playlistcodes you gave me.

Something else
Isn't possible to stream JUST audio to your nokia 7650. So far I could only find like you said the 'add video option' and there is only one template for the 7650. Taking another template, not specially made for mobile streaming for the 7650, that does support audio, does indeed not work.
So what I did. I took a wave file, I converted it to an avi file and then imported this avi file into the oplayo media designer. So i got a stream which exists of a audio layer with minum 6 kb, and a video layer of 12kb.
That video layer is in fact empty. It works great. I tested it with a file of more than one hour, aprox. 3,5mb. Still, the video layer is in fact not needed and makes the file three times bigger than needed.

Any suggestions? I am thinking about implementing it in an audiosite I own.
The good thing about oplayer compared to realone player is that you can stream it, as you know. Best would be just and audiostream of about 4kb.

Thankx Again. and thanks for the Simpsons "shit" :)

Thankx Again. and thanks for the Simpsons "shit" :)

LOL... that was South Park. Credit(?) where credit's due. ;)

There is no audio-only support for Oplayer so you'll have to do the same wav-avi conversion thing in the future as well. Don't know if the next version of Oplayer changes this...

Nope, but if the playlist creator has been kind enough you can download (=save) the playlist on your phone. That should make things easier.

If not, you could try making a playlist of your own with your favorite links on it.

but how can i create a playlist on my own? Can't find it in the oplayo media designer.

and,

Creating files gives two different extensions. .mvq and .mvqp. What is the difference. audio/video?

Thanks and keep up the good work.

To create PLAYLISTs (legally) you should buy Oplayo Media Designer Mobile vers. 3.5 ...

.mvq = extension for "just video"
.s60.mvq = extension for "just video" on S60 phones = Nokia 7650, 3650, Siemens SX1 etc.
. mvqp = extension for web "p"resentations - like on www.oplayo.de/demos.html

Bye

I tried to provide those vids on my WAP site but the cost was prohibitive, Oplayo want you to setup up a partnership with them for revenue share, also had trouble getting the vids to stream from my server, download is best cos it works over wap gateways, streaming only works via full internet access.
