One simple question. How to make my computer on GPRS, visible to internet users?

The thing is..I'm able to browse, download and also p2p over the GPRS. I've set up a FTP server and its all setup fine. BUT... the problem is its not accessible from the internet (Wan). It cant even be pinged. I'm using the real ip (as is should be). The others, Machine ip, and Internal ip (dynamic), i dont think can be used to connect from outside my phone network subscribers anyway.

How then can my server be accessed?

All i need is an ip that can be accessed. How do i determine which one? I feel its something simple that i might be missing.
Any help in sorting this out is much appreciated.

Your operator must assign public IP addresses to your phone. Some do it via their default GPRS Internet Access Point (IAP), others have another access point for public IPs, and yet some do not allow it at all.

So, ask your operator/carrier.

I have tried the both 1). default (public) ip ( as in my phone setting )and also 2). the one as mirrored on www.whatismyip.com. Nothing happening. The Tech help is almost sure the ports are not being blocked or the inbound traffic being restricted, and is not very sure or much else.

My reasoning is..if i'm able to access the net..its got to be thru SOME gateway ip.

Yes, but by "public IP" I mean an IP address that is not in a private address range of the operator (and thus hidden from the rest of the world) + also one which your operator's gateways/routers allows to be accessed from anybody on the Internet.

If your operator does not do that (either for all IP addresses they assign phones, or only those using specific Internet Access Point settings), there is nothing you can do on your own.

So, ask your operator (or carrier or phone service provider, if you like to call them that), and ask: Is there any way - any specific Internet Access Point, for example - for a GPRS mobile phone to be assigned a public TCP/IP address which can be directly connected to from any machine on the Internet?

If they say no, then all you can do is to switch to a different operator.

If they say yes, then I suppose they'll also tell you the relevant details (namely which GPRS Internet Access Point to use). Note that using such may also be more costly (you pay for all data traffic, including incoming).
