from what i read so far it is more stable ( not crashing as much ) + if gets too full will not lock up and not repower as a few ppl have found but on the downside uses 120KB of space to upgrade it !

Can't be authentic news. Coz' zooming feature is the hardware part not software.

Digital zoom so i think it may be possible but dunno

CameraFX (good peice of software) does digital zoom.... As the name of the feature implies it is a software feature NOT hardware

Yes 4.14 is due out soon, when exactly, well only Nokia know. I imagine as long as it doesn't have too many bugs it will be in the next fe weeks.

Rafe, can you confirm any new stuff on 4.14 (I mean it is a major version change not just minor version .. ) Where did you hear about it any way ? Any websites.

I read about it on the uk.teleocm.mobile newsgroup a few days ago. There wasnt much info posted but apparantly:

1) It's pre-installed on handsets produced in the last few weeks.
2) These wont see the shop floors until current stocks run low. Nobody know exactly when that will be.

Is it just me, or does anyone else see the jump from 3.xx to 4.xx as a sign that there has been a major overhaul of the O/S? (By major I dont mean any new features, just lots of little fixes and improvments.)

My major hope would be that the speakerphone problem is fixed and that the images for speed dial are held in a cache rather than retreived from the contacts. I'm nit picking with the last one though! ;)

i here it also yesderday from my NSC.
He is small, but the contact is very friendly, and he has a level 2 Status.
(I give my Infos about bugs to the Servicetechnic-guy,
and he gives back infos like this...)

The SW will be out in next 20Days,and there sould be some real bugfixes,
like the Memory-bug...

I read about it in various places. One of which was in reply to a question on a Nokia developer board - it was answered by Nokia and they said 4.14 was coming out very soon.

As for it significance well generally a big number change in firmware 3.xx --> 4.xx does indeed indicate some major change. In the case of the Nokia 9210 the 3 to 4 change represent the first really stable firmware release, much better memory management etc. In terms of new features we probably wont see much, it all be under to hood.

That said who knows. Nokia seem to be unusually secretive about this firmware release - perhaps we'll get bluetooth support for the headset profile. I doubt it though.

Hi, I'm new over here but I work for a Nokia service point. WE still have the 3.16 software, so the 4.14 software is not out yet

26-09-2002, 08:40 AM
i'm on 3.16 with orange in uk so i hope that they allow the firware (when released) to be available for our phones. Just thinking of the Orange t68/i firmware upgrade fiasco

26-09-2002, 01:13 PM
Well I don't know if these versions are "public", but version 4.23 is available internally in nokia. Personally I have 4.18 installed on my phone.

And what would you consider as being the main differences. I'm on a 3.12 firmware version. Thanks

26-09-2002, 01:45 PM
Well, I can't say that there are any "revolutionary" changes (at least I haven't noticed any). Mostly bug/stability fixes.

Guest, I respect your privacy. But I am curious as to how you got this version installed. Anyway we can get it done too ?? (I would guess not).

By the way, any fix on the loud speaker ?? I would think twice if I couldnt get the loudspeaker to be loud again !!

26-09-2002, 11:09 PM
Yep, you're right. You need special hardware which is not available publicly (just at service points and at some places within nokia).

27-09-2002, 06:41 AM
but how do you know that the 4.23 version is out yet

You can get the Firmware upgrade by going to your local Nokia Service centre.

If your phone is under warranty yes it is free.

And no you can't do it yourself.

27-09-2002, 12:20 PM
as far as I can tell, the 4.x versions are development ones. When they are good enough for public release, it becomes a 3.x (then development continues in the 4.x)

If you get your firmware upgraded at a Nokia Service Centre, do they do it why you wait and will it delete software you've installed on your phone?

29-09-2002, 12:52 PM
well it takes about 5 minutes to flash the phone so it probably depends how busy they are.

GhostDog
29-09-2002, 01:09 PM
Your software is installed on the phone's c: drive,i think that only the z: drive is needed to be flashed for an firmware upgrade, but then again, that is just my opinion,so i might be wrong

Merlin

Yup, sounds about right; flashing the z: drive. I should have thought that through myself :o
Thanks :D

Actually it takes about 5-6 minutes to backup the phone (depends on how much stuff you have on it), about 7-8 minutes to flash, and of course count another 5-6 minutes for the restore process. All-in-all takes 20-25 minutes to update the phone. Best thing is to backup the phone @ home (that will work for everything xcept Java and midi ringtones), and give it empty to the service center.

30-09-2002, 07:58 AM
It takes about 2 minutes and we can do an update that will erase everything and we can do an update that saves your data like the phonebook and stuff like that.

Hi,

Why should the upgrade taking up another 160KB? Why not just change the ROM for the Z: drive.

3.6MB is already so pathetic.

Just called the Nokia Care Centre (Singapore), they said there was no news about the upgrade at the moment.

My phone hang a couple of times. Have to take out the battery to reset it.

But overall, I am very pleased with 7650. So far its the best Nokia I ever had. Just cant wait for new SIS SW releases. They are damn cool. Small but pretty handy when its mobile.

cheers!

Nokia Care Centre already replied me with such information. Please read the Announcement at the top of this forum for detail. ;)

Happy to know another new user from the "Land of FINE" :D

hei since they can flash the Z; drive after all, do you think it is possible to remove the game snake from the Z; drive ?
cause i dont like the game and it take about 200 kb
so i can heve more memory left to play wit h:P
anyone have the same thought ??

12-10-2002, 10:16 AM
Is it possible to upgrade the mem. of the NOKIA 7650? I haven't opened the phone yet but I would like to know what type of media is used to store the data. As for the firmware, it is possible to upgrade it at home - look at Duhamobil.cz, they have the PIN-out of the N7650 and my local mobile shop has the necessary SW. The only problem would be obtaining the firmware..

GhostDog
12-10-2002, 11:39 AM
You can upgrade at home if you have the proper tools and knoledge, you can not upgrade using Bluetooth and IR,that is my opinion, deleting snake will do you no good cause it does not take any of the C: drive space, which is user important (You can not store anything on the Z: drive).Best advice,go toa a nokia service center.

Why don't you all stop arguing and get yourselves a 3650 like I have, imported from Romania..... a hell of a lot better than a 7650 (still a smasher of a phone though)

I went from 3.16 to 4.39 a month ago, and reloaded a backup from PC suite v1.1.0 (on W2k server) via IR, without a problem.

If you're running XP, do a search on the forum, there have been a lot of issues with connectivity and XP

Most WinXP problems have been solved with the latest PC suite version.

Nope I have the same version and no problems with ringtones or speaker phone. I would have phone checked. Sounds like a speaker problem.
