If true it sure looks like an interesting device.

langdona 05-09-2002, 01:13 PM It seems it is true. As its reported on ZDNET 'Nokia aims colour handset at youth market' (http://news.zdnet.co.uk/story/0,,t269-s2121831,00.html).
Now is it Symbian?
I'll post a full news.
upponalle 05-09-2002, 01:42 PM Here is a quick translation:
Nokia will present this new phone and maybe more tomorrow (6.9.02) at a press conference.
The 3650 will be similar (colour screen, digicamera, streaming video) to the 7650, but cheaper!
It should come out during 1st quarter 2003 and has Bluetooth, triple band, GPRS, Java and MMS.
Covers will be changeable and there will be interesting colours for the covers.
Weight 130 grams and measurement 130x57x26 mm. Stand by time is between 150 and 200 hours and talking time around 4 hours.

Tilman

I must comment here too that many current 7650 owners will probably feel having being cheated by Nokia, if 3650 is released with better specs and still a lower price than the 7650.
Especially this MMC memory card is defnitely something that should have been in the 7650.

Call me a cynic, but surely this is just Nokia's way of getting 7650'er o buy the 3650, then realise that the 7650i (ie the 7650 with MMC) will be out in Oooh November?
:-?
jbbandos 06-09-2002, 09:56 AM Ewan,
I'd rather say that this is Nokia's way of getting 7650'er to buy the Ericsson P800... It just stinks, if they don't come out at once with a "fixed" (mmc, video, more base memory) 7650 with a easy (low-cost) upgrade path from the 7650. I am quickly filling my 7650's memory, and need that mmc expansion to use it properly... And it is a low blow to the ego of every 7650 owner to know that the "kid version" will be less expensive and have more gadgets...
SwitchBlade 06-09-2002, 10:33 AM To be fair though the kids version won't be hitting the street till say March next year, then allow another 2 months or so for them to be adopted by the networks, so realisticly you'll be getting your "upgrade" to this added model about a year after the 7650. Though I'm guessing Nokia will have an advanced version (6650???) for the more power user around then.
Dazler 06-09-2002, 10:57 AM Still the 3650 seems more attractive then the 7650(i) in general.
This was a clear signal to me that I'll sell my 7650 soon or very soon when I stell get something for it.
If Nokia releases the rumoured 7650i in the near future, the basic 7650 model will be worth "nothing" - at least not very sexy to own anymore.

upponalle 07-09-2002, 10:18 AM In today's newspaper it said, that the 3650 would costs between 400-500 € here in Finland. So you should be able to get it for less with a new or renewed contract (in Finland operators don't subsidize phones :( )
whiplash 07-09-2002, 10:18 AM that's how Nokia capture its market. now the 3650 for me is to capture the 3xxx and even 8xxx markets which are bigger chunk of the pie than the 9xxx market.
but this hurts a lot of 7650 users.
but 7650 physically looks better than the 3650.
but 3650 dominates on new features that 7650 doesn't have!
