Hi Guys,

Been round and round trying to use my 6600 as a modem, as I successfully have with my old 7650.

-Using Win2k btw.
- All my bluetooth stuff to the phone works.
ie: No probs connecting via PcSuite and transferring files etc..(Although was a bitch to get working initially, has a conflict with 7650(

- Eventually removed any software related to 7650 altogether to clean up.

- O.k. So I installed the Nokia Modem Options from Disk. Unlike the documentation suggests
I didn't get a prompt asking how i wanted to connect(bluetooth) It just installs then I reboot, then a bit more installation.

- When I run Modem options from control panel, there was no Modem listed.
- It does mention this could happen in docs and suggests adding the modem manually. Which I have done using ->controlPanels->Modem&Networking

- Modem get added(I choose 6600 from list)
- Modem then appears in Nokia Modem Options.

- Just can't get dial up Networking connections working,
Starts dialling then complains that it can't initialize modem.

I have tried every combination of installing - reinstalling. Checking com ports(all fine btw), Suspect need supported ".inf" from nokia to give when using windows modem add but can't find one anywhere)

Any clues anyone.... ?? Help!!

I had the same problem. Dis-regard the fact that "modem options" to not behave according to TFM. However, what the program has done is to install the INF file Nokia6600IrDa.inf (or something close) in the C:\winnt\inf directory (depending on your OS). Now do the following:

First delete any "Standard IR modem" which Windows might have detected and installed

Boot the machine (if you deleted any modems)

Then do one out of two:

a) Remember to press "MODEM" in the "CONNECT" menu and not "INFRARED" like I did (and which has been custom to all older Nokia phones I have had). Place the phone in IR-sight with the computer and Win2K should detect the new HW device correctly as a 6600 modem

or (if you were smarter than me and have already tried a):

b) Install the modem manually. First modify the INF-file on your disk and comment out the whole section called "ControlFlags" (two lines). After this, the 6600IrDa modem should be selectable if you run "install hardware manually"
